2 device trick to switch profession
edited June 2020 in Wizarding Challenges + Professions #1 latest comment 30 October, 2020, 11:17 am.
Can we have an official position on using 2 devices to switch professions on the knight bus.
Would like to know if it is within the bounds of the game.
As Animagus recieves information from you to pass to the community then can we assume that this is an ok practise to continue to spread to the community.

After niantic publicly assumed it would not refund and well return the thousands of fragments and green stars lost by thousands of players, playing on two devices will be no problem.
@HPWUblue ? @hpwulola ?
Playing on multiple devices, in order to circumvent the regulations in the game or gain an unfair advantage is against the TOS... so do it at your own risk.... that said, they didn't even ban people that were exploiting with multiple devices to gain unlimited exp, books, gold, etc. They just closed the loophole.
@Valki - thank you for asking the question. i suspect that this “trick” (which not everyone has the luxury of being able to perform — because two separate devices, each logged in under the same account, are required for the trick) struck you the same way as it struck me.
*cough*(dodgy)*cough*
let’s just leave it at that ... until @HPWUTeam provides an official position regarding use of this trick
Or until they update the Knight Bus to allow the switching of professions (among other things like invite codes for friend groups).
The video got removed from my post 20 minutes ago.
Hi folks, I'm unsure if this kind of activity is permitted in the game, but I do know it's against Community Guidelines to share tips about game exploits, so I edited out the video link. We've flagged this to the team, and I'll update you once we have more information on this.
Edit: @Valki Sorry for the delayed response
ty @HPWUblue for the response
This activity is technically not cheating, but there is a risk that your account will run into a bug that will block you from entering Chambers. It is interesting to see that it is possible, I appreciate the creativity 🙂But it overall has a high risk so I would not recommend this.
@hpwulola It would be nice if it was a feature implemented into the game, so you could switch professions while in a fortress without having the need for a second device. Of course not during a battle, but without having to hop out of a fortress and possibly also while in a chamber and waiting for players. With many players invested in the game to a point where they use books in multiple professions, it would be nice if there was a feature to accommodate profession changes for them while in a fortress. Hopefully, if implemented as an official feature, there won’t be any bugs associated with it either.
I haven’t yet invested books personally in another profession after mastering my first, but if I were to do that, a feature like this would definitely be nice to use if available.
@HPWUblue @hpwulola If this is technically not cheating, can we add the video back to the original post so that players can learn how to use the exploit to switch Profession hats while in a Knight Bus Fortress? I know for myself this is a highly useful skill for when I enter a Fortress, select a Lobby, and see that it is full of Professors, so that I can switch to an Auror in order to better complement the team in that Chamber Lobby.
From a Support perspective, we don't want to share content that could cause issues on players' accounts. Therefore, I will leave the video off of the forum.
From a gameplay perspective, wouldn't it be best if people are mathced with OTHER Porofessions, not a majority of your own, as it is today? I think the "2 devices need" would be greatly reduced.
Im auror and professor. Be nice change before get in challenger
@OGMagus i agree with you, but I also propose this - lowering the number of knight bus “lobbies” (I can’t think of the technical term) so more people would be in them. Too often, I wait the whole 2 minutes just for a CHANCE at a full chamber so if we get 5, sometimes I’ll just say scr*w it and continue even if there’s 3 magis and 2 Aurors or something like that, because I know if I exit out my chances of getting another 5 person chamber are slim. This is frustrating, especially when I know I have a buddy one town over who is also sitting in an empty chamber but yet it won’t put us in the same one because there are so many “virtual buses.”
I would like to know their stance on it as well -
We have a VERY active Discord group, that meets up via discord at least 5 days a week, we have 5+ players join. Sometimes enough for two full groups of 5 to play. Most of us have invested a lot of time and gold into our game, most of us have two professions maxed out.
Sometimes we have someone who has to leave, or could use a prof instead of an Auror. We spend a solid 5-15 mins sometimes more, "finding" each other in the lobby so we all can play together. Then something will happen, we may lose a few, or someone needs to switch to magi instead of auror and will use the 2 device trick. BUT only after we have spent time finding each other, and not wanting to go out, wait in ruins again for them to find us.
No one I am aware of use the second device to play, only to switch to make our game play better.
While I understand it would be labor intensive to add the code to the game to allow us to switch while already in, this is an alternative for those like us who spend a lot of time finding each other to play together.
@hpwulola @HPWUblue wait, definition of cheating is "any action that attempts to or actually alters or intereferes with normal behavior or rules of a Service", how is this not within this definition? Changing profession within a tower is not normal behavior, is it?
Did you ever get a response on this?
