Distance Calculation For Portkeys
I wish the app used a step counter (as i’ve heard Pokémon Go does) to track distance for portkeys. It’s taken me one week to open a portkey when my phone/smart watch shows i’ve walked over 10 miles. I’ve seen this same issue posted by other players in Wizards Unite Facebook groups.

If you ever drive anywhere just open the app and click that you are a passenger. As long as you do that and keep your phone unlocked it will count the distance. I do it all of the time.
It doesn't count the distance if you're driving. It aggregates anything under 12km/hr but doesn't count anything above that.
I put my phone in my pocket Monday at work just to see what would happen (I walk the entire 7 hours) and then I took a whole backwoods hike today with my phone unlocked and not one step was counted. I had signal (WiFi at work) ....I have like 8 portkeys 3 of which only required .10 km four days ago and not one of them is unlocked. It was happening off and on before but this is ridiculous. Please help?!
Edit: I literally went back to the game after posting this and one unlocked and the other one is just gone completely......i’m Just....
@Bshields If the screen goes inactive, the app will stop calculating distance. You may find depending on your phone settings, that you need to take your phone out and tap the screen every 30sec or so to keep it live.
It's in the works.
You can turn on "battery saver" mode and turn the phone upside down in your pocket. That will allow for continued tracking without having to keep tapping to keep the screen on.
