Unicorn Hair Scarcity
Once again, I am having trouble getting Unicorn Hair. I think I’ve only gotten one in a portkey in the last several weeks and I think there was one from an event. I’ve spent the coins to buy them a few times but 30 coins each is an awful lot for one Unicorn Hair. A while back I was having trouble finding Butterscotch, I hadn’t found any in ages, then suddenly I started finding tons of it and now I have too much!
Is anyone else having the same problem? I realize it’s a rare ingredient but this is ridiculous. Maybe there is some way to adjust how often they appear in portkeys, or even drop them on the map once in a while?

@CeruleanGirl I also ran out of unicorn hair brewing PE during that one CD. I’ve asked my friends to send me exstimulo ingr gifts. It sometimes has abraxan hair, but sometimes it also has that shiny lovely lock of unicorn hair. If you are able to communicate to friends, ask for that gift for a while until your stock is sufficiently built up again. I’ve finally started getting a few in my portkeys as well. Think I have 10 or so now.
I got unicorn hair mostly from event portkey.
Anyway, i think a way to adjust its scarce-ness is by posting just like butterscotch. 😉😉
Now even i had to deleted some of butterscotch from the vault. 😬
I usually only pick up 5 of the event portkeys, just enough to get the event foundable fragments, but if they are more likely to have Unicorn Hairs, I’ll grab as many as I can. Has anyone else found that there are more Unicorn Hairs to be found in event portkeys?
I can’t find sny either!
They have been very scarce in portkeys lately.
Yeah — I’ve opened 10+ port keys of varying value over the past week, but haven’t received a single unicorn hair!?! Need them BADLY now!!
I can only find them in portkeys now and funny enough it's usually a 10km one
They’ve always been portkey only with the exception of a few as event task rewards and in some Exstimulo Ingredient Gifts since those were added. I used to find them pretty regularly in portkeys but in the last several weeks I think I’ve found only one, possibly two.
The only Potent Exstimulos I’ve been able to acquire lately have been the few I’ve made with the 3 or 4 Unicorn Hairs I’ve gotten from portkeys and events, the several I have spent 30 coins each making, and one or two from Potent Exstimulo Potion Gifts (love those, many thanks to those who gave them to me!)
I get that they are supposed to be rare, but this is ridiculous, especially when a lot of traces are extremely hard to return without them. It’s so frustrating to find a trace you’ve had trouble finding, only to not have any Potents to use. And you can’t really use 4 or 5 Dawdle Draughts on the same trace. That would be impractical at best. So many times I’ve cast at them 10-15 times, mostly Masterful and Great casts, only to have them depart in the end. 😡
I can confirm, although only anecdotally, that they're less common than before.
It makes sense, they're supposed to be rare after all. Just stings a bit with all the back to back events.
I gave up on using them for anything less than severe and very uncommon.
I usually get several Brilliant Event portkeys and consume them all. I have found that Unicorn hair is more prevalent in these special portkeys. Now that Paramount only requires 5km to unlock, that's a good choice too.
I walk 5km every day so for me, I open a lot of portkeys. I don't used any cheats or machines. I had 30 unicorn hair at one point.
Honestly though, I don't use PE that often. I tend to use SE a lot and those are much more readily available. I'm a Level 39 player and level 15 Professor. Maybe I just don't have to rely on potions as much?
Well, I’ve opened 8 Brilliant Portkeys so far and have gotten 4 Unicorn Hairs. Not a lot but definitely better than the Zero I was getting before so not too bad! I keep getting Erumpent Horns in them as well, which I definitely do NOT need. 🤦🏻♀️
I had a whole line of brilliant portkeys to open recently and have only gotten one or two unicorn hairs total. That is so frustrating! Especially when you have to pay for most of the keys and then end up having to buy an expensive unicorn hair on top of it. I don't find that I get anything better in brilliant port keys. It's just a money making thing and I'm trying not to given in to it anymore.
Where do I go to ask friends to give me Estimulio Ingredient gifts? I don't know anyone who plays the game. It took me until they did the Night Bus to finish my assignment about working as a team in a fortress.
@CeruleanGirl - I've noticed that ingredients wax and wane in terms of commonality. Maybe this is the "low" season for Unicorn Hair?
I’ve been getting a lot of Unicorn Hairs in Brilliant Portkeys. Well, not a lot but compared to before it is. I have been opening mostly Brilliants for the last month and a half or so and have been able to get enough Unicorn Hairs to be able to brew PEPs pretty regularly. It’s the 8 hour brewing time now that makes it hard to keep it in stock.
Well, this is a possibility in a paramount portkey.

Sorry for the double post
Some month ago I had to delete unicorn hairs as it kept coming in at a higher pace than I was able to consume them. I had 70+ at that time.
Now I barely have 1 or 2 every week... and provided the consumption of potents I have with the trace charm I will be very quickly out of supplies...
I manage inventory to keep enough mats for 4 of everything with the exception of 10 powdered dragon claw, 20 unicorn hair, and 20 hermit crab shells. I keep the cauldron hot around the clock daily and the backstock count has gotten me through every dry spell since I set my strategy. Had a good couple weeks of no shells and one without dragon claw but didnt feel any pain with it. Unicorn hairs havent haunted me but they did leave my wife struggling to find them for a bit. A secondary measure is to set yourself some strict usage rules so your burn rate does not exceed your earn rate. Happy hair hunting!
I think we need green house expansion something like animal husbandry or equestrian or care of magical creatures for non-plant ingredients.
