no more pussyfooting - get the proportions right in ingredient giftboxes

if the plain / basic ingredient giftboxes continue to give non-high-value ingedients in single units where the potion recipe calls for multiple units and the same ingredients can be picked up off the map or obtained from greenhouses in multiple units, then there simply is no need to open those ingredient giftboxes and thereby waste a precious resource (due to daily maximum of only 10 giftboxes allowed to be opened).

example: 1 bubotuber pus or 1 baneberry, when the recipe calls for them in units of 3, and we can pick them up in bunches of 6 for bubotuber pus and bunches of 3 for baneberry.

please @HPWUTeam @hpwulola , tell the game bosses at nianyic / hpwu to get the ingredient proportions right in all ingredient giftboxes.

i had been saving a small number of plain / basic ingredient giftboxes to return in kind to individuals who send them to me (and deleting the rest instead of sending them out), because maybe they like ingredient giftboxes.

but no more. i’m just going to not send out any more basic ingredient giftboxes from greenhouses and delete them instead.

as for basic ingredient giftboxes received from friends, they may or may not sit for a very long time, and i have been looking for an excuse to prune an oversized friends list and might have to begin with those who keep sending me basic ingredient giftboxes.

sounds and feels terribly ungrateful, i know. sorry, not sorry.

to folks on my friends list: please don’t send me the basic / plain ingredient boxes any more. i won’t send them out either, going forward. and apologies in advance once i start pruning - my list is just too big to easily manage.

@kiheikid Im totally with you on this one! They’re so pointless. What am I going to do with ONE bubotuber pus? And I’ve done the same - sent them to people I know kept sending them to me, thinking they liked them. But I really try not to send them at all because I hate receiving them. The special ones like Baruffios or Dawdle or extravagant ingredient gifts are great, but the plain ones need to be improved or removed.

Are the titles not checked against the filter?

Can we get everyone to agree to just delete these ingredient gifts? They really are useless.

You make good points @kiheikid . I sometimes send them as "better than nothing", but I think I'd better delete them. :(

Given that farm animals and types of salad leaf are banned, I am absolutely stunned that this title got through the filters.

@ClairabusGryff I don’t disagree with a single thing you said. Portkey rewards have suffered, extravagant gifts have become more rare, greenhouses should give you what you paid for every time right away, and yes communication is awful! We shouldn’t have to come searching this forum and then discord and four other places to find out what’s happening. That being said, I’m not as far as you with a bunch of gold pages completed yet, so I still have a bit to go. But when I start completing all those, and now my professor lesson plan, then what? I’m hoping for a big release soon... I will keep you in mind for spell energy gifts, but I apologize ahead of time if they’re just regular ones. I rarely get extravagants anymore.

Thank you @MrSciGuy for your words and always your gifts. I did fail to mention that the one saving grace I have or thing I look forward to is the HOPE that there is a rather large update coming with:

    1. more lessons
    2. more pages
    3. more foundables
    4. more achievements
    5. more SOS tasks

Just more in general. So there is that...it would be so very nice if we had any information of when that might occur.

I mostly agree with what has been written. What I don't agree with is the tone (and the fact that most of it is complaining/ranting - destructive critique instead of constructive).

So, how would you change it, what would you adjust in what way - IN DETAIL?

(what's following is my suggestion, just an opinion - feel free to chime in)

If a common ingredient gift is opened, roll the dice for the Ingredient:

The amount is the adjusted depending on the Reference-Recipe:

    • Ginger Root: 4
    • Newt Spleen: 3
    • Ground Scarab Beetles: 1
    • Armadillo Bile: 1
    • Valerian Root: 2
    • Sopophorous Bean: 1
    • Butterscotch: 1
    • Hermit Crab Shell: 1
    • Bitterroot: 4 (taking the Potent Version of the Exstimulo Recipes as reference)
    • Snowdrop: 6 (taking the Potent Version of the Exstimulo Recipes as reference)
    • Re'em Blood: 2 (taking the Potent Version of the Exstimulo Recipes as reference)
    • Unicorn Hair: 1
    • Honeywater: 1
    • Vervain Infusion: 1
    • Scurvygrass: 1
    • Lovage: 2
    • Abraxan Hair: 1
    • Wormwood: 1
    • Bubotuber Pus: 3
    • Dittany: 2
    • Dragon Liver: 1
    • Leaping Toadstool: 2
    • Frog Brain: 1
    • Runespoor Eggs: 1
    • Powdered Dragon Claw: 1
    • Sneezewort: 2
    • Baneberry: 6
    • Bulbadox Juice: 4
    • Angel's Trumpet: 4
    • Erumpent Horn: 2
    • Granian Hair: 1

@Lucoire exactly what you have here. This is what @kiheikid is saying. I would welcome ingredient gifts if they were as you outlined here. Otherwise they are virtually pointless, as we can get more of that ingredient simply by tapping it on the map, and thus the gift sits unopened, taking up space and preventing another from being sent.

No, this doesn't go here. Yes it should have its own post, but I am not sure it wouldn't be taken down and people are reading as roused. So here, since they put this out elsewhere (once again). I'm dragging it onto the official site.

    This came out yesterday: 2-28-20.

An official feedback survey was emailed out today, if you didn't get the email you can use the link provided by Fases below

i suppose i could have used “tiptoeing” instead, but it is a bonus to show the inconsistency of the filters working (or not) here.

i am glad folks are starting to speak their mind instead of timidly hinting about problems with aspects of the game.

thank you @ClairabusGryff for saying in print here what many of us are thinking / feeling too.

i hope @hpwulola can help convince @HPWUTeam of the growing frustration among players with the game itself if niantic / hpwu doesn’t fix the problems (NOT an exhaustive list in this thread, by the way)

so, no more pussyfooting / tiptoeing around. if you’re pointing out a problem but are indifferent as to if and when it gets fixed, that’s up to you. but if you have pointed out a problem and are frustrated at the lack of progress, please don’t hesitate to share your frustration too. and please be supportive of others who speak up ... it is not always easy for someone to speak up, but that does not detract from the validity of what they have to say. frankly, this board can do a better job of supporting folks who speak up about problems with the game.

@kiheikid I disagree on that assessment.

Frustration is destructive. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy and therefore should always be reflected on and then abandoned.

Voicing your frustration doesn't change what you're frustrated about, suggesting an improvement does however.

@Bormacska - thank you for providing the link to the survey - i just completed it and it only takes a few minutes.

that the survey link was not provided by anyone on the @HPWUTeam or @HPWUFazes directly on this forum, just shows that niantic / hpwu treats this forum as an afterthought. this forum obviously seems less important to them than discord, twitter, graffitti on a park bench somewhere

@Lucoire - we can agree to disagree. i have views about your approach but it is a waste of my time to further engage with you in such disagreements.

if you want to suggest improvements, by all means please do so.

i support anyone else who is frustrated about aspects of this game and i encourage them to speak up in their own way, even as others by their words or actions might be more discouraging.

@kiheikid I have been suggesting improvements time and time again. Big ones, small ones.

I have seen some of those improvements implemented. What I've heard of the other ones I'm not allowed to talk about.

I have been encouraging others to do the same, to collaborate rather than complain. And yet you accuse me of discouragement simply because I disagree with you.

Keep in mind, there is no difference between a person that can't see and one that doesn't want to see - both are oblivious to what's in front of them.

@Lucoire - i cannot help you see how antagonizing and discouraging the tone and/or substance of some of your interactions have been, if you are in denial. thus endeth the lesson.

Accusations again. Why not give it a try and have a conversation? Is it because you are already convinced that a conversation is futile?

What if I told you that that's a self-fulfilling prophecy? If you think that a conversation is futile and therefore you avoid it, then you MAKE IT futile.

(Sidenote: a "fundamentalist" is someone who believes so strongly in his own opinion that nothing, not even evidence or truth, can change his mind. I never want to be that. That's why I ALWAYS ask myself what I would need to see to change my mind - and I always encourage people to show me evidence, to convince me. Learning and enlightenment can only ever come to those who consider themselves to be fallible.

Based on your actions so far, you don't try to convince.)

@Lucoire I would point out that on a number of occasions, you have sh.ot down for no good reason the ideas and suggestions that I have made.

Frankly, saying "You should check this screen, or use that non-default interface", and put the blame for a bad UI on the user is just ... bad.

Saying "You're new, don't tell us how things should be changed" is also ... bad.

    ---

Getting improvements to something is a good idea.

Getting ideas for how to improve things is a good idea.

** Finding out what is NOT good is very, very important **

The idea that "You must know how to improve something before you can complain" is ... forgive me, idiotic. Idiotic.

You must be willing to accept "I hate this", even if the person has no idea how to improve it.

A new player will be able to say "This frustrates me", and not able to say "Improve it with X".

You have to accept users saying "Fix this". If you rely on your users to make good game design, then what the bleep is your design team doing?

Folks we all have different opinions and we all have a different way of communicating said opinions. Some people just keep their opinions to themselves and don’t share. And some do share. I believe that both @kiheikid and @Lucoire have provided many suggestions on improving the game but for whatever reason you both seem to antagonize each other. And ultimately that takes away from the purpose of this forum. You are both highly intelligent men and are both clearly very passionate about the words you write on this forum. It hurts my heart to see you two go at each other either directly or passively. I would personally request that both of you try to respect the other person’s opinions and perspectives. And if you can’t write something supportive in reference to each other’s posts then please just don’t post anything at all. I respect the both of you greatly for different reasons. Kihekid has a welcoming and kind approach and was one of the first people who really welcomed me to this forum. Lucoire has fantastic ideas and backs up his opinions with well thought out data and reasoning. You both have amazing strengths. So please for me can we call a truce? It would really make me happy and ultimately if you two could find a way to work together for the betterment of the game and this forum would be so amazingly better off basically you two working together would be unstoppable.

Please for me just consider what I wrote above and thank you kindly!!

@ClairabusGryff - challenge accepted but the numbers don’t lie. count the number of threads started by our, um, friend that i respond to (if at all) and contrast that with the number of threads started by me that he responds to. i can refrain from replying in his threads but he cannot help himself ... let’s hope he proves this wrong, going forward. 🤭
