Game enforced weather restrictions
(Sorry for the dup post. I know I saw a thread talking about weather, but I cannot find it even with a search on "weather", which turned up a lot of unrelated threads).
So tonight I got a wind warning and was told that traces and other things would not be in normal availability.
Why? Yes, this is a wind town. We have windmill farms.
We also have something called "Indoors". So we don't notice the wind. I mean, we also have this visibility restriction called "night", but that doesn't reduce traces even though it might be unsafe outside. (And I've got these "Lights" while inside.)
Please get rid of this "We know better than you what is safe" behavior. Thank you.

I was going to point you to some other threads, but the search bar is kaput atm. 😕
From what I know, these weather-warnings are imported from an "emergency system", suggesting that Niantic might be "forced" to display them.
In a similar fashion the "Stay aware of your surroundings"-popup is related to a legal issue, as are comments/warnings regarding trespassing (there were legal cases in 2018 and 2019)
I don’t like it either, but I can see how it might be a requirement for liability reasons, as @Lucoire pointed out. I’d love it if we could get a clear answer on whether this is, indeed, some sort of safety compliance issue and not just another example of total overkill on warnings and notifications like we saw in earlier versions of the game. If it doesn’t have to be there, I do wish they’d remove it. On the bright side, even when the warning is present, I haven’t noticed a reduction in actual spawn rates compared to any other day.
@Acumen the one thing I have noticed in fog or heavy cloud cover is that I get a higher then normal departure rate on confoundables. I don’t have any data to back this up just the amount of times I cuss when I get a departure on said days.
I haven't noticed that myself, @ClairabusGryff. There is plenty of evidence that the weather can have different impacts on different regions though, based on all the feedback from players. I just love it when it rains during the dawn or dusk hours here in Amarillo, because that's when the Horned Serpents come out to play.
@Acumen since you are in Texas also do you get more Horned Serpents in the morning or evening hours? I typically get on average 3-4 a day but mainly in the evening.
They only come out when it rains in Amarillo, and the in-app weather must also say it’s raining. It doesn’t rain very often up here on the High Plains, @ClairabusGryff. When it does, particularly during the summer months, it’s usually a small storm band that passes through quickly an isn’t reflected in-game. That combined with the fact that it needs to be during dawn or dusk hours makes horned serpents very rare in my area. I think I’ve only seen them on four or five separate days. On two of those days, it was raining during dawn hours and I managed to snag a few on my way to work. The other days were during dusk hours, and I scooped up a bunch more. I don’t think it was necessarily because they were more abundant at dusk though. I think it was mostly because I had more time to look around.
That’s crazy @Acumen as I see them at a minimum 5 days a week. Which I love simply for the WXP.
I just looked and Amarillo is 500 miles from me...perhaps we should meet in the middle someday?
Yeah, that sounds cool @ClairabusGryff. I do make the occasional trek to Dallas for work or play, and I might have to travel to Austin soon for a project I’m working on at Seton. I’ll keep you posted.
Yes, please do @Acumen as Austin is like 1.5 hours away from me. I would be happy to meet you in Austin. 👌😁👌😁
