Yeah, there needs to be some sort of "adventure sync" with this game. Some of us who exercise by walking don't want to have our phones out constantly, especially in heavily populated cities where it's not safe to be staring at your phone all the time.
I work on political campaigns and things like Pokemon Go, I use to get canvassers (Come knock doors for X candidate and hatch some eggs)! Would be nice to have the same ability with HP:WU. But that's me being greedy. hehe
But I also agree with you. I walk my dog and would like to get steps without destroying my battery.

You have to have the game open for it to count.
They fixed that problem with Pokemon Go, I THOUGHT they'd implement the same for this game. I thought wrong.
