I would really like to see a feature that encourages exploration but implementing it in a way that a) is difficult to exploit and b) would also give a long-term motivation - means that it will very likely not return in the way it was before.
What I could imagine is something like a special reward for the very first ever visit to a certain POI... which would then encourage you to travel to increasingly distant places to collect those rewards. Ingress has that in form of a "explorer" badge, Pokemon has something similar.
Right? I totally agree, @JulieJubz, I’d love it if that came back in some form. @Lucoire is spot on about the previous implementation being too easy to exploit, which cheapened it. Plus it didn’t provide any indication of which regions you’ve visited. I love the idea to have achievements for visiting special POIs around the world though.
Also, I wonder if just going to inn’s in other countries could be enough of proof in general? Like, I just went to a different state here in Brazil, and I got presents from those inns, that proves I was there?
Or maybe that’s easily exploitable like you guys mentioned? To tell the truth, I never actually understood WHAT the problem was with the achievement. I never even understood how people cheated with it? So.. please ignore me, haha.
@JulieJubz from what I read, the travel achievement didn't register for people who actually traveled to other countries. People did figure out pretty quickly, though, that by changing some settings on their phones they could actually get credit for the achievement without going anywhere at all. So the only people who actually got the achievement did so by cheating.
Also, I just remembered that with pokego, there’s some Pokémon you can only catch in other countries. I actually dislike that idea very much, but I do wonder what sets it off so those Pokémon finally do start appearing. Because when I was in Japan, I never saw a Farfetch, and that was their territory.
So I wonder if it’s a problem in all of the games?
@JulieJubz I’m wondering about dragons if we travel to Europe this year. Just because we’re there doesn’t mean we’ll see the common welsh green. It would be nice if we did... say enough to prestige😂😂 but I’m not getting my hopes up.
@JulieJubz The "regional exclusive" pokemon are somewhat rare, even if you are in the region where it should be found. I guess that's partly an attempt to combat spoofing and partly due to the fact that there are far too many pokemon in the game already - each with their own logic when and where they appear (biomes, weather, daytime)
@Dogoutlaw exactly what I was thinking too! I WANT moar dragons 😂
@Lucoire it totally makes sense, but also makes it kind of sad. Like, I've visited japan once in two different decades! NOT catching something while there feels like an opportunity totally missed 🤣

😂😂😂 I wish it would, but I’m not hopeful.
That was like, my dream achievement. More than any of the others. A world traveler achievement! Who could say no to bringing THAT back? 😂
