@Li11ee - can’t go wrong in my book if you equate Hawaii with the wise !
in the same vein, i had to recite the Lord’s Prayer for my parents when i was knee-high to a grasshopper. instead of saying “hallowed be Thy name”, i said “Hollywood be Thy name” 😊
@ClairabusGryff thank you. My oldest son inherited my misunderstanding lyrics. When he was about 6 or 7 we got in an argument because he was adamant that "Feliz Navidad" was "at least not alot"
@kiheikid We also have a really nice phrase for Happy New Year which is "Guten Rutsch" ( in full, it is "Guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr") which literally means "good slide into the new year". I love the idea of sliding gracefully into the new year and will often use the German even with my English speaking friends!
@Magpie31 - i like that one! danke sehr. i had a german teacher (from hannover) who taught his class to appreciate the cleverness of certain german phrases and idioms. and what he wouldn’t teach us, the american GIs from the nearby military base were happy to teach us. Guten Rutsch!

And Merry Christmas to you too!
Nadolig Llawen i bawb!
Merry Christmas to all!
Merry Christmas HPWU!
Merry Christmas one day late!
is “Happy Boxing Day” a greeting in UK and its commonwealth of nations ?
@kiheikid Not to hijack another thread but funny story related to mele kalikimaka.
My nonnie loved that song. I am the master of getting lyrics wrong so instead of singing the correct chorus of
"mele kalikimaka is Hawaii's way to say Merry Christmas to you"
I sang
"mele kalikimaka is the wise way to say Merry Christmas to you"
So mele kalikimaka everyone because I always like to do things the wise way.
P.S. I just figured out I was singing it wrong this year

Feliz Navidad to everyone on the earth and may 2020 be the year you need and want.
@kiheikid oh I am so saying that from now on.
