Second Professions

I got really bored today and had 800+ scrolls just sitting there, so decided to try a second profession. I mean, by the time I have the red books for another upgrade, I am likely to have earned the scrolls again anyway.

Part of me wanted to sit on the scrolls for when the next lesson plans are released, but we have no idea when that will be, and I thought it would be nice just to see what the other professions are like.

Has anyone else got a second profession or have you hoarded the scrolls?

I too have just used my mountains of scrolls stored up to do 20 lessons in the two other professions I’ve not yet tried. Gave me new achievement badges if nothing else. I haven’t yet tried these other professions out in a fortress yet though. But at least for now it gives me something else to do whilst earning epic amounts of red books to complete my first choice profession. Though I have a feeling I’ll get to the point where I am just needing epic red books for all 3 professions. Let alone restricted books. Fantastic that some people have completed a lesson plan. I wonder how long they have been playing? Hardcore since day one??

A fortunate few were beta-testers and those who attended the fan day at Indianapolis are most likely to have completed their lesson plan as they received extras

Professors need green books whereas Aurora and Magizoologists need red books

I know of a Melbourne player that completed his Auror training long ago.

He now has enough red and green books to complete the Magizoo tree but has decided to hoard them for a while.

He is sitting on 8,616 battles completed.

Beta of course who like me spent a ton of red books on skills that now require green books (I have 123 green books).

@WerewolfChaser I would definitely do the same with books, as they are harder to acquire. But scrolls are fairly easy to come by. I have spell book envy, I think!

@Magpie31 I have spent scrolls in Magi and Professor but won't spend any books. I've maxed out all the stops non book skills.

I still have almost 5900 scrolls. I still need 90 red books with enough runes to earn 58 red books.

    It makes me cringe.

@WerewolfChaser Care to send some this way? I didn't have nearly enough to max out non book skills! That is an impressive collection.

@Magpie31 I was in your boat and once I got to the point of having enough scrolls to cover my Auror lessons I started in on MZ. I know I won't hit red books there for a long, long time, but I immediately maxed the scrolls only portion of MZ. Still don't really play fortress as MZ, but I might if I were in a group and our MZ wasn't there. I'm down to 214 red books for finishing Auror and didn't start the game until early August so I'm not too worried about it taking forever to get those, especially with the kind of events we've been doing! I'm now in the process of collecting green books as the last event put me clear for Auror. Can't decide if I will hold onto them for lesson 2 release or put a few to MZ...

@WerewolfChaser that's an impressive set of scrolls. Being part of the beta group must have been interesting and frustrating all at once when they shifted some of the requirements!

I’ll sit on mine. I’m just waiting on more green books to complete my first lesson plan. After that, I’ll probably move on to something else. PC/console/mobile games aren’t really my thing. The only reason this one managed to hold my interest for so long is because I love anything Harry Potter related.

I’ve completed the restricted section book lessons on my Auror skill tree, but still need about 150 spell books to complete the lesson plan.

I find that when we are in a group that is not well balanced; ex. Two aurors, two professors and no magizoo, it might be advantageous to switch to magizoo, since I’ve completed all scrolls only lessons for a magizoo and have been putting the restricted section books from the last few events into it too. Who knows when lesson plan 2 will be released. But this way I can atleast revive fellow players and save on time. But, switching from an Auror to a magizoo is so frustrating because as an, I have a lot of power and take on foes easily, but when I switch, I’m so weak, since I can’t upgrade power without spellbooks and magizoos have less power than aurors anyway.

But the main main point point is my inability to control myself when I see the scrolls sitting there. I just have to put them to use. Who knows how long I’ll even continue playing the game!

@kiheikid how so? PS: you can use chewing gum wrappers and a battery to start a fire!

I'm magiczoologist and was having trouble casting. On a hunch I switched to auror and completed a few lessons and wouldn't you know it? My casting greatly improved

My main profession is Auror and like a lot of people here I need many more spell books to complete the lessons.

I've completed all scrolls only lessons for professor and magizoologist.

I guess I need to focus on doing more fortress battles now.

I'm a professor and a magizoologist. But as far as I can tell Auror might give the best bang for your buck as a second class. Professors need quite a bit of investment before they're playable and Magis are tanks (so -to me- not as comfortable for solo).

As always it depends very heavily on your playing style. If this forum is anything to go by there are a lot of solo players vor various reasons, so either Auror or Professor seem the most obvious. :) your mileage may vary.

I am a magi zoologist and chose that on day one because of my love for all animals. Sometimes I wish I had chosen auror though. But no regrets right? So if I were to go for a second one I should work on auror. I am 9 or 10 lessons away from completing magizoo. I need like 188 more red spell books. I play solo all the time. @Punkyfins what did you mean by magizoo’s being “tanks”? Just out of curiosity.

@ClairabusGryff Not sure what @Punkyfins meant, but Magizoologists are definitely tanks in group play if you have maxed your defence and have a defence charm on from another player (can’t remember which profession does that). You really don’t take any hits at all 👀. Seriously, it’s awesome 😎 Plus, quite sure Magizoologists have the most stamina.

Profs have the protection charm. I protect my magizoo hubby all the time, and he brings me back to life. Win win.

@Dogoutlaw has the right strategy for Professor / Magizoologist playing together. First thing I do (Professor) is protect Magizoologist using 3 of my 4 Focus, doesn’t matter if I die regularly, Magizoologist can resurrect for 1 focus and heal 35% for 2 focus

@ClairabusGryff tanks in the sense that they can take an improbable amount of damage, and still stay in the battle :)

Thank you all for the clarification. During fortress battles I do pretty well except for dark wizards. They take forever to take out. But my stamina is at 459 right now as I have been focusing on defense for the time being.

@Magpie31 funny timing. We're having the same discussion on my local discord. There are a few high level players (they were in beta) that have 1 maxed profession and an almost finished 2nd profession.

My professor is like @Acumen 130/134. With help from friends very generous and perfectly timed gift(😉) I finishe my last red book lesson recently.

I'm very tempted to start a magi. But I'm going to cool my jets, hang out a while.

Savoring how much fun it will be to blow through new lessons when they release them.

In the end I'd rather have 1 areally well developed character that I enjoy and play well .

    And that's my 2 knuts.

@Owlx That is really insightful, thanks. And yes, I do have that feeling of "Oh, I wish I'd saved my scrolls to blast through future lessons" but given how quick it is to get more scrolls, I should be okay. Hopefully.

I am still a way off enough red books, though making progress. I am trying to get at least 4 red books a week. It might not seem like much, but fortressing outside here is just horrible, especially with the humidity and the mosquitoes. Plus I don't have the attention span!

I wonder when our next big content drop will be? We have been going six months or near enough, so it would be good timing. Anyone know what the timescale was like on Pokemon Go?

I'm wondering if a new lesson plan will require new types of spell books. Thus making the Red books and Restricted books only good for the current set of lesson plans.

My experience with Niantic in Ingress would tell me that significant new mechanics like that is highly unlikely. Also, implementation of the second level skills tree is not to be expected any time soon (read: years).

Like many here, I've spent my extra scrolls to level up in all three professions, mostly to contribute any needed profession if I were playing a wizarding challenge in a group. My red books and green books, however, are dedicated to finishing off my primary profession. My advice: do everything fun to enjoy the whole game now, as waiting may never bear fruit.
