Have to admit, I am feeling a little uncomfortable with the game and supporting anything Rowling related after this. I actually came here to see if anyone felt the same and how they were reconciling it.
If you ask my opinion, I think people (including justicial powers) nowadays are way too easily insulted or spooked. I don't see Rowling as a threat to LGBTQ, nor to any other ethnic/**** oriented/whatever group you can think of. The woman fired was part of a think tank, and to me, discussing controversial issues is part of their job. Just not that sensible to tweet it out in public though.
Normally I wouldn't shy away from a good discussion on biological terminology on gender either, but since this is after all a game forum, I think I'll pass on this one.
As for @bonzork, I hate to see anyone leave a good game/franchise, but if I were you I'd postpone leaving until all details have surfaced, including reactions from Rowling herself. While I agree with @MtPollux that it won't make that much of an impact, I understand that this is/could become a personal dealbreaker for bonzork.
@Jeroenix Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the matter. I agree that there is often a mob mentality with these things and people are very quick to be outraged. A few people in my circle of friends are cutting ties with anyone who still "likes" Harry Potter on FB or are members of any groups etc. I am still on the fence about the idea of art vs artist, myself.
I did write a much longer answer about previous engagement on transgender issues (that article doesn't fully represent the situation, I don't think) and the wording of this particular tweet but like you said, I don't think this is the right forum.
For now, I think I will sit and watch and try to separate the art from the artist.
Applying Ockham's **** to her "Tweet", she expressed that "male" and "masculine" are different, just as "female" and "feminine" are different. She expressed that there's a difference between looks, biology and identity... and just because society seems to put higher priority on some of those aspects doesn't imply that the others don't exist.
(or in short) People need to learn to distinguish between different words with different meanings: "Gender" and (the 3-letter S-Word) are different and mean very different things. And just because you identify as your Gender doesn't imply that the other criteria is non-existant.
The world is complex and complicated... and simplifying will inevitable sacrifice truth.
It's okay to call it out. People's right to be recognized is incredibly important after all. What I'm not sure about is the poster's decision to call it out here, on this forum, while they are clearly not willing (or unable) to engage.
That's okay too: the point is well taken, but like some others, if that is the case, I question the purpose of this thread.
I'll never be able to relate to the sort of privilege that allows people to be so picky about choosing their allies, or so quick to call someone their enemy. Each day, the social and political environment grows more divisive, and fewer good people are willing to step up and try to make a difference because they see us standing there, stones in hand, just waiting for a reason.
Our society has come to a point of people sitting on social media waiting with "stones in hand" for anyone, anywhere to say something they disagree with and then open fire. I may be older than a lot of people on this forum but I thought we had free will and more importantly we had/have the ability to have our own voice/opinion and be able to share that opinion or in most cases not share. And not too long ago if you didn't agree with someone's opinion then oh well, you just moved on, you know agree to disagree. But for people to cut ties with friends because they have a love of all things HP because of an OPINION of the author seems a bit extreme to me, let alone to un-install a free game based on a fictional world created by this person with her own opinion. But that is the world we live in because if people don't all agree on the same topic and have the same exact opinion then well we are all doomed. No more free will/opinions/ideas = group think and you are so right Acumen people will not be willing to step up and try to make a difference because one way or another they will make someone mad.
Ultimately people have to do what is right for them.
With the essential caveat that, in an online space such as this, people should be recognized and reasonably safe: regardless of the opinion of the author who (ultimately) lead to the the creation of this space.
Even if we are all tired of the outrage-generator that is social media, let us at least respect all identities as a community.
Of course the original poster in this case has declined to interact. But I *do* think it is important for this community to (try) to be inclusive.
@Punkyfins Even Deatheaters, Inferi and Vampires? Next you're going to ask to include Arachnids, Trolls and Pixies - or even worse: Gnomes?
Joking aside: Nobody has been actively excluded in here - as that would be against the Forum-Rules... some however may have excluded themselves - or taken offence where none was intended.
The core idea of the Game is to UNITE... it's even in the title and the Gameplay shows: there are mechanics for expression of identity (houses, wands, professions) but none of those restrict who you can play with.
@Punkyfins I love that Social Media = Outrage Generator - Totally using that saying from here on out.
And duh, I don't know why this didn't sink in earlier but the name of the game is Harry Potter Wizards UNITE...it doesn't matter if we are muggles, pure-blood witches, pixies, trolls, deatheaters, whatever, we are here to UNITE over the magical make believe world created by someone's genius mind.
Also, today my kiddo made up a new HP phrase - HUGGLES FOR MUGGLES. Love that so much.
Ahhh gotcha, thank you @Lucoire for the clarification. Has anyone received the coveted extravagant runestone gift? I think I have only ever obtained and then gifted out about 12 or so of them. And I play about 10-15 fortress battles a day. I myself can’t specifically recall opening one. I have received extravagant spell energy and potion ingredient gifts but the runes are so rare. I would love to receive approximately 150 of them or so. 😁🤣😁🤣

This is the first I've heard of any of this, I need to do some more research. At first glance this seems pretty disturbing.
Do what you feel you need to do, but I doubt that uninstalling this game will make much of an impression on Rowling.
Yeah. Pretty gutted too.
This is one take on it for those who don't frequent social media, and might not have seen the furore.

From the same article:
"However, Rowling has also been praised for her LGBTQ support, including, perhaps ironically, her **** down of the anti-trans tweets of conservative commentator Tomi Lahren. She was also acknowledged for retroactively identifying Dumbledore as gay in March — a decision that was met with mixed reviews and questions about her sincerity in advocating for the LGBTQ community."

My 2 cents, freely given.

@Acumen so exactly articulately put.

Certainly the Arachnids @Lucoire. And thank you. Your post is enough to show you take my point. I appreciate it. :)

@ClairabusGryff Extravagant Rune Presents will continue to contain red books - the rewards listed above are ADDITIONAL to the "regular" ingredients.
