Re-watching HP Movies - Whole New Appreciation
Hello,
At Christmas is when I watch all the HP movies as it gives me an 11 month reset on them if you will. So I started movie one tonight THE SCORCER’S STONE. Having played this game since day two I am noticing things before that I never paid much attention to before. Like the troll, the actual scorcerer’s Stone, the whole Hagrid Hut page with the baby Norwegian Ridgeback (wishing there was Hagrid’s dog Fang on that page too). And of course all of the owl’s dropping gifts at the dinner table gave me all the feels tonight!!
So what have you noticed from the movie’s that is in the game?

Oooh you are soooo right with this!! I found the Fantastic Beasts films took on a whole new level after playing this game.
So I've definitely got a few from the HP films 😀
Just busy at min but wanted to comment & say how right you are that you notice so much more with having played the game. Il pop my list of things on here tomorrow.
Thanks for this thread @ClairabusGryff 😊
@AuroraKadavra so excited to hear what you have/seen learned from the Fantastic Beasts movies. I haven’t gotten to those as of yet. I am on the second movie today while doing laundry. But the Confoundables take on a whole new meaning to me now!!
i mentioned in a different thread that i noticed the dirigible plums in papa lovegood’s garden while re-watching deathly hallows part 1, but i first became consciously aware of the existence (within potter universe) of dirigible plums only because of this game. :-)
Hey-hey! Did you know ending in deathly hallows part 2? Looks like harry potter was adult now and have son too. Looks like we have a continue for episode again...
@Yohanes12 The sequel is a stage of play, the Cursed Child.
Last night I fired up Netflix. I have all the DVD's somewhere and some of them on iTunes etc. I've bought them too many times.
Being an Aussie we follow the Brits so I watched The Philosophers Stone, lol.
I go by Philosophers Stone, as well. I don’t have a printed book with that title (yet) but I do have the audio books read by Stephen Fry. Can’t get those here in the US. I’m late getting started on my December HP movie marathon. Better get on that. I like to prepare a treacle tart with the rest of my holiday baking, strictly to nibble on while watching the movies.
I go by Philosopher’s Stone as well. 😃 I was living in Ireland when I discovered HP, so my first four books are british edition. Since I was back in the States when the last three were released, I ordered them from Amazon.uk! I just couldn’t break the trend.😂 I still wonder why they changed that particular word. It should be Philosopher’s!
I never knew there were different names for the second book. Philosopher’s vs Sorcerer’s. I learn something new every day.
I was talking to my brother the other day who is a severe Potter-head and also foremostly anything Star Wars which of course Disney owns the Star Wars franchise but he said that of all the money that has been made from the whole HP world vs Star Wars per capita since Star Wars has a few decades more under its belt the demand and money making potential for anything HP is higher then Star Wars so Warner Brothers and JK Rowling are working on many projects to extend the Harry Potter story. Not just the Fantastic Beast series. Wouldn’t that be amazing - more HP movies???
@AuroraKadavra i watched the two Fantastic Beasts movies and oh the moon calf’s, demiguise, bowtruckles, nifflers, and graphorns and oh the beautiful thunderbirds! But correct me if I am wrong, there is nothing in our game from the second Fantastic Beasts movie right? Those two movies were why I chose to be a magizooligist.
On to movie 2 tonight as I took AuroraKadavra’s advice and went the FB route. What will I notice tonight???
@ClairabusGryff You’ll love the baby nifflers!
@Dewin99 i want a baby niffler so badly. One of my faves! But in the game the adult niffler is so rare and disappears after one failed attempt. The creatures they invented are simply amazing. I think the cute-ness factor the best is niffler. The scariest is swooping evil. He is scarey but Uber cool!!
i wouldn’t mind an obscuris foe coming to oddity traces or fortress battles, hint hint
@ClairabusGryff oh my goodness aren't the films epic!!!!? After the game everything took on a new light with the creatures, felt like i know them more personally! Lol.
Esp baby nifflers! Waaaaaaaant!!!!
I think you're right- off top my head the new creatures in 2nd film like kelpie & the circus ones etc arent in the game as yet- it would be great if they brought more of those in next year.
The Zouwu would make a great red beam oddity! 😀
Ive got the HP films on my itunes, so we always have to hook the laptop up to tv (not paying for apple tv- got netflix & prime already!) But we were say other day need to get started. My fave film is defo Prisoner of Azkaban. My eldest daughter has all the books we bought & started reading to her as a child until she quickly lost patience cos that's too slow & took them to read herself! She can read a novel in a day! Id usually be a week lol.
I'm also a major fan of the Star Wars franchise, they usually release new time for my birthday on 22nd so i drag everyone to the cinema 😀
Love Marvel, DC, anythin for kids really! 😂 IT'S NOT JUST FOR KIDS!! 😂
@AuroraKadavra I was trying to remember the name of the liony-thing with the cool bushy tail in the 2nd movie - ZOUWA...love that name. And yes he deserves a red plume and then our want could turn into the cat toy thingy they used to capture him. Also, that Japanese water dragon thingy? I can't remember what they called him. Also the kelpie? Oh yes, hopefully they will add another Magizoology page for us with the creatures from the second movie.
@kiheikid yes, an obscuris for a fortress battle would be AMAZINGGGG!!!
In the second movie I finally understood why Arthur Weasley was turned into a rubber duck. In the movie when he met Harry he asks him "What is the purpose of a rubber ducky?" The things I have learned from the movies that coincide from the games has been like watching the movies for the first time. It has been sooooooooooooo much fun for me!
@AuroraKadavra i hope we have baby nifflers plushier is here and too fast sold out🤣
@ClairabusGryff what's eps when Arthur Weasley was turned into the rubber duck? I want look this funny momment.
@Yohanes12 in movie 2 Arthur Weasley asks Harry what is the purpose of a rubber ducky? He didn’t turn into a rubber duck just asked him. 👌😁
@Yohanes12 I have a baby niffler plush! Daughter bought me last xmas 😍 its got a little zip pouch for a coin! Must get my collection together of sooo much HP merch for photo for the thread- think @MrSciGuy set up for pics of our collections 😀
@ClairabusGryff those are just awesome ideas for next year introducing to the game! I hope they do!
Ps i think ive sent u an extravagant gift for u to open tomorrow on CD with baruffio going? If not im collecting as many as can to send out, ive sent 7 since yest to friends & hav your name down as the next but 1 to send to, hopefully il get an extravagant to everyone i can 😊
Definitely would love to see that collection @AuroraKadavra!
We've been watching the Fantastic Beasts movies.
In Fantastic Beasts doxies are hunting other small creature billy wig I think. The doxies gets stuck in an ebublio bubble.
In the Crimes of Grindelwald the street circus performers in Paris are in Ebublio bubbles.
@Owlx the FB movies are fabulous. I hope they add more pages of creatures to that section. I would love to see an obscurus.
I have a question about the tank of brains. Does anyone know where that is in the movies?
Hi. The tank of brains is in Order of the Phoenix (at least in the books) when they go into the Department of Mysteries. I seem to remember Ron getting tangled in the brains and them leaving scars, because thoughts can leave deep scars.
I can't remember what happened in the films, though.
The Order of the Phoenix.
From books not sure if it made the movie cut. It's from the department of mysteries.
It attached Ron and left nasty scars one his arms.
Looking for excerpt to link here
Oh right...I have been rewatching all of the movies and haven’t seen the tank of brains in there. So was just curious! Thank you both!!
@ClairabusGryff 👍 the whole idea of that one freaked me out in books very creepy.
@Magpie31 very much the overwhelming power of thought.
Love how many serious lessons and ideas are subtly hidden in the Harry Potter stories. Amazes me how powerful well written stories can be.
I'll share later after work.
I just went and watched that last section of Order of the Phoenix and it wasn't there. I have to say, I think that is the first time I have seen a book only reference in the game!
Me too @Magpie31!! I have checked them all off except that one. And I have so many ideas of what else they could put in for content. For example in Hagrid’s Hut there is the winged Abraxan horse but those were the horses that carried the Beauxbatton students so that should be in a different registry page but Hagrid’s dog Fang should definitely be on that page. IMO
Peeves is not in the movies if I recall correctly. But yeah, they pull a lot from the movies. Iirc, Firenze is actually a palomino, but the movies and game show him as dark.
@AuroraKadavra All the movies are on Netflix down under so have a look. There's always the VPN thing for net savvy people (not me!)
@Dogoutlaw I always forget that Peeves didn't make the final cut, because I have seen the photos and things of Rik Mayall so many times! That is a really good shout!
