I win, yet I lose
Sometimes, (a lot of times recently) when I’m fortressing, I defeat the foe with anywhere between a couple of second to spare or a whole minute to spare, but the foe resurrects and I’m unable to do anything. Then a message pops up saying that it’s been too long since I took action against the foe and I’m led to the defeat screen, even though I had already taken out all the foes.
This happens especially in higher chambers and when I’ve already put in too much potions (a LOT of healing potions as I am an Auror and exstimulos to outrun the clock) yet I lose. All those potions and spell energy gone to waste. This is extremely frustrating. I had good internet service and a steady GPS. So I don’t know why this is happening.

And today, the foe ‘gaining stamina’ bug came back to haunt me. A foe with 37 stamina went back to having 267 stamina after a hit. 💩
For the first time ever, I finally had a runestone stolen from me. Losing the runestone didn't upset me at all, but all the spell energy I wasted did. I was in Forest II at a sponsored fortress and encountered a connection error within one or two strikes from defeating the last foe. It's funny that I was located just outside of an AT&T store when it happened. I don't blame the game in this instance. There was definitely something wrong with my data connectivity at the time. I don't usually have issues at that particular location, and I hope it doesn't become a trend. The fact that it's sponsored, combined with being the closest fortress to my home, makes it my preferred spot.
@Acumen the thing, is I had really good connectivity! It just happens some times. It doesn’t kick me out like it happens when there is a connection problem, the foe just comes back to life and I can’t do anything about it. Being an Auror, in dark chambers, it’s a huuuuuge waste of potions too.
You're totally right, @LeFayeofAlbion. I see they've got a thread in Known Issues about it. It just happened to me two more times today. At least, on both occasions, it was immediately upon entering the challenge when I received the connection error and was kicked out. My runestone was stolen both times, but I'm happy it wasn't toward the end of the challenge after wasting a bunch of spell energy and/or potions. Hopefully they'll identify the root cause and get it resolved soon.
It happened to me again today. Server error popped up after hitting the start button on a challenge. This time, I followed the advice of others I saw posting about it on Reddit, and I hard closed the app without acknowledging the error message. I then launched the app again. After it finished the usual loading screen, it placed me directly into the challenge chamber with foes ready to fight. I lost about 20 or 30 seconds of challenge time, but at least I didn't get kicked out entirely only to have my runestone stolen.
@Acumen this has happened to me several times since they activated the “start button“. I reported it in the app each time. On any occasions in which I lost a rune stone and was not able to get back in to the fortress, they were able to refund my lost runestone. They kept saying that I must have had a weak cell signal (I had full LTE service). They also suggested making sure I was on either cellular network or Wi-Fi and not trying to do both (I was only on cellular network with Wi-Fi turned off).
Personally I think those suggestions are just generic ones and perhaps even excuses. I think I’m seeing an uptick in this ever since the “start button” was activated recently.
Agreed, @MrSciGuy. There's definitely something still buggy about that new feature. It's cool that they're quick to refund the lost runestone, but I hope they get it sorted out soon.
Yeah I love the new feature @Acumen. From what I can tell in the few times that it’s happened to me, it seems that I trigger it when I am extremely quick to click on the start button immediately after I’ve selected my rune stone. So far when I have waited maybe two or three seconds as the two minute clock ticks down, I seem to avoid getting that error. Maybe a coincidence though?
Dude, I noticed the same thing, @MrSciGuy. I mean yeah, correlation does not imply causation and all, but so far my data matches yours, lol.
@MrSciGuy & @Acumen Keep up the good work both!
Glad to see it’s not just me! Anyone else seeing anything similar?
Btw @Acumen whenever this forum allows for direct messaging, we’ll have to exchange friend codes.
@MrSciGuy , @Acumen It happened with me as well today, twice, and it was also when I clicked the start button as soon as it appeared. First time it happened I lost the runestone, which the HPWU team were kind to refund once I reported it. The second time, I force stopped and restarted the app, which put me into the chamber and I was able to continue playing. Waiting about two seconds avoided the bug for me as well.
Starting to see a pattern here @HPWULola... seems the start button in fortresses may have a small bug that when clicked immediately upon showing up it gives the error that won’t let you back in to the fortress if you click on it. However waiting maybe 2 or 3 seconds before clicking start seems to help.
Guys! While the start button is buggy still and I have lost runestones to it, and the server error has been happening for a long time and yes, restarting the app helps it, what I was talking about was me still in the game, the last foe resurrecting after I’ve killed it, me unable to do anything, a pop up saying that it’s been too long since I’ve took action against the foe, the timer running out and while I’d won the chamber, usually a dark chamber, wasted a bunch of energy and potions, the lost screen pops up with Dumbledore’s ‘words of wisdom’
That is no server error. That is pure cause for frustration and something that has just stopped me from playing in the dark chambers.
I've encountered that issue once or twice, @LeFayeofAlbion. Each time, the foe would fall again after a few seconds and the challenge would complete. I think I've seen a couple people describe the same issue you're talking about, but it sounds like it isn't something common among all players. Without being able to duplicate the problem, the developers will have a hard time finding a solution. I certainly hope they do though!
Also, @LeFayeofAlbion, like I mentioned on this thread where people have described a similar issue with Oddities (gets knocked out but then revives itself and just stands there staring at you) I've only had it happen to me in instances where my phone had a strong LTE connection but was apparently stuck briefly in a state where it was trying to switch from WiFi to LTE (or vice versa).
I know some people will just turn off WiFi altogether to prevent their phones from trying to pick up on a weak public WiFi signal from a nearby coffee shop while they're in the middle of a challenge.
I don't know if that will help you, or if it's something you've already tried, but figured I should mention it just in case it helps.
i was not able to get good screenshots like @LeFayeofAlbion above, but i suffered the same fate today attempting dark chamber 2 again ... every second is precious, and the zombie erkling coming back to life with 73 pts (if i recall correctly) AFTER i killed it directly (ie, no use of det hex to bring that foe to zero) cost me at least 20 seconds. the black screen with backward running clock in lower left corner before i could engage the last foe (a pixie) , even though there was between 45-55 seconds left when i engaged it from the lobby, lasted all that remaining time and then led straight to the defeated banner.
very frustrating - i lost my Magical Games level 1 runestone and, more importantly, 4 healing potions, 7 strong exstimulo potions, and 2 potent exstimulo potions - and it was not a fair fight when i get cheated of my full time allotment.
@HPWULola - i tried using the app bot to report this bug and make a claim for refund/return of lost resources but the bot does not seem to be working either - i am just in a “conversation” there with no reply or acknowledgment by the bot.
edit: plus 3 strong invigoration draughts
update re post #19 above ...
i reported the bug on dec. 10th. i actually get an in-game response (for first time ever, regarding lost runestones & potions due to fortress system bugs) finally on dec. 16th
“pretty good” (i said, as my nose grew), only 6 days to respond, except (a) the assets they are returning to me are the weakest potions and not the strongest (potent exstim and strong invig) that i lost and asked to be refunded/restored, and (b) i have restarted the phone and app at least five times since yesterday afternoon while keeping track of my potions, but what they promised has not been delivered into my vault.
@hpwulola - not sure who “Bailey” is, but i sure would appreciate it if you would let Bailey know that i haven’t received anything yet and what Bailey “offered” falls far short of the more valuable potions i lost. is it worse to have my specific claim ignored and offered only pennies on the dollar in compensation, or to be rooked and not even given back those pennies ?!?!
The developers should have built in a debug mode which records all systems interactions - not saying this should be enabled for everyone as it will impact performance - but if players are seeing a specific pattern of behaviour, debug could be enabled for specific people / sessions, would require co-ordination though
Regardless of which, I expect there is logging which may record higher level of detail such as login time, location and event
