can we play brilliant week 2 without update 2.7.0 ??
if yes, then i will stay put at 2.6.0 because the 2.7.0 update sounds like yet another dumpster fire ... why does @HPWUTeam keep releasing updates that are full of app-breaking bugs ?? does no one even test things anymore, or are we (the players) supposed to be your product testers without even knowing until too late ?

I've been a beta tester for games for years. There's a lot that goes into testing and releasing. Many factors take play, not the least of which being device model, device os/version/capacity, etc. In addition, sometimes when coding something new, it can unexpectedly affect something else seemingly unrelated (and therefore not looked for during "bench tests").
Is it frustrating? Absolutely.
But as a community, we should be ok with reporting the bugs in a respectful and understanding manner; especially with a support team and dev team as involved and interactive as we have here. If after numerous reports and a reasonable amount of time the issues aren't addressed, then we can pull out the ire a bit. That would be understandable. But to expect perfection at every patch is completely unreasonable.
i think expecting every update NOT locking out players is entirely reasonable, and yet how many times have updates been released here that lock out players ?? is it really too much to ask, that we not be locked out of the game when they release an update ??
at this point, i would like to just play at 2.6.0 instead of jeopardizing my chances of playing brilliant week 2 by downloading 2.7.0 — i would just like confirmation that is ok
@Craeft ???
Is it really you...?
Show me your patronus....!!!!
Tis only me.
Forgot to tag @SumaHan
@kiheikid there are 2 different types of issues, server side and application side. This was a server side issue not really a fault of the update itself. They probably just forgot to update their auth server to allow the new version of the app. The auth server has a list of acceptable versions which would prevent people with two old of a version from logging in. Likely they have beta accounts which did allow the new version and simply forgot to push it for everyone else.
@Ginnungagap - thank you. so in simpler terms for us non-techies, “yes, it is ok to stay at 2.6.0 and still play brilliant week 2” ??
@kiheikid I don’t think it’s ever mattered which version you are on for brilliant events. As long as you can brew potions, battle in fortresses, open portkeys, and return foundables you should be fine.
FYI though, 2.7.0 seems fine now. Was there a hiccup last night when initially released? Yes. Did they fix it quickly? Absolutely.
just finished brilliant week 2 main assignment, and most of the bonus assignment, all while still on HPWU version 2.6.0
so my advice to others would be to finish brilliant week 2 (and place your images and get your rewards) before updating app to version 2.7.0
feedback to @HPWUTeam @HPWULola :
please don’t release app updates that lock out players (or otherwise plague us with bugs) right before the start of a time-sensitive event like brilliant week or community day. that is just unnecessary stress. OR please improve your communication by making it clear that updating to the new version you release is not needed for playing and completing the time-sensitive event about to start. thank you.
It's not exactly atypical for an update just prior to a game event... on any platform. But sincerely glad you were able to complete. Updates prior to events are typically necessary to complete said events. This is typically true all the way (and especially in) MMOs.
From what I understand, 2.7 is good to go. I didn't notice any interruption, personally. But I know others have.
yes @Craeft - that is precisely why i asked for (but did not receive) official confirmation from @HPWUTeam whether 2.7.0 was essential to our playing and completing brilliant week 2. i did not want to waste assets/resources trying to achieve a task assignment that would be impossible without downloading new assets from the latest update, but also did not want to risk getting locked out of the app right before starting brilliant week 2 (or risk getting frozen out of fortresses) if i did update to 2.7.0.
better communications from @HPWUTeam would prevent this confusion and stress that comes with such confusion
@kiheikid I thought the communication was sufficient. A new thread was quickly created and referenced. https://community.harrypotterwizardsunite.com/en/discussion/3776/resolved-login-issues-after-updating-to-2-7-0#latest
It then was quickly listed as resolved.
Can't confirm a version will work for something that wasn't intended or tested. Can confirm the proper version is working.
@Ginnungagap - what may be sufficient for you is not necessarily sufficient for me or others.
the close timing between update release and event start is what complicated / compounded the problematic issue ... maybe not for you, but definitely for me.
there was no explanation whether 2.7.0 was necessary in order to allow for brilliant week 2 event to be played and completed, especially because 2.7.0 was released right before the start of brilliant week 2 event (the timing of update releases vis-a-vis event starts is one issue; the update release preventing players from accessing vital areas of the game, such as portkeys or fortress battles, or preventing login for the app itself, is a different and much greater issue).
my suggestion/request for @HPWUTeam :
(1) best to not release updated versions within 48 hours of event start; and
(2) if updated version is released within 48 hours of event start, issue official confirmation whether the features or assets from the new updated version are necessary for playing and completing the event as intended by HPWU
- if not necessary, then we can just play the event and deal with update later;
- but if necessary, then we might want to wait and see whether there are reports of access problems or bugs interfering with event play as intended by HPWU, before updating version and then starting event play
Man, these long-winded debates over a mobile game sure are thrilling. I bet y'all are a real treat to play board games with.
Yikes. Hard pass.
@Dewin99 Totally full - half air, half water.
@Dewin99 I think that's only about 40% full.
@Dewin99 my glass is too big for my water?
Don't assume it's water. Or air.
