The girl in the fireplace
Does anyone remember the Doctor who episode ‘the girl in the fireplace’ where the clockwork automatons were looking for Madame de Pomapadour, only they couldn’t pinpoint the exact time they needed, so they created windows into her life at different points in time?
I think the Calamity is like that. I think perhaps that the London five were sucked through time (let’s not say time turners because I don’t believe so for many reasons. Also the cursed book is not canon)
The spell that caused the calamity was supposed to track them through time, but it hasn’t found the right time yet, so it brings back situations and memories from various points in time, hoping to find the time where the London five ended up and are being held captive.
Maybe Grim himself was sucked through the calamity as well, during the spell, as something went wrong. Maybe he is stuck too. But unlike the London Five who are stuck in one (or five) period(s) of time, perhaps he is lost in the time space continuum. And that is why the calamity is even more unpredictable, because it doesn’t have an anchor.
What are your thoughts?

idk it’s 2 am and I had to get this out
That's a clever story twist. Also a great Doctor Who episode.
@LeFayeofAlbion ooh, nice Doctor Who reference.
It’s an interesting take on the calamity event. But at this point I feel anything is possible , especially since there are so many theories that sound plausible .
Imagine the calamity looking through something like a pensieve, but it lost its footing and fell it.
Now imagine a raccoon looking through a trash can for something specific and falling in. It doesn’t find what it’s looking form but it’s going through everything, tossing out the things that are not what it’s looking for. It is making a gigantic mess everywhere, a proper racket, as it moves from trash can to trash can, looking for the one particular thing, tossing out the rest for some poor city worker to clean up.

@LeFayeofAlbion 🤯 love the raccoon analogy. It makes so much sense now. Also thanks for the Dr. Who going to find and rewatch that episode.
