I'm going to comment here again. Read the quote that I started this post with again please.
What follows is my rant, my tangent.
There loads of new witches and wizards new to the official forum. Why- the update that broke the fragment counter and the Schrodinger's cat fix.
If you want to commiserate here you are welcome. If you want help you are welcome. If you want to vent, you are welcome.
Don't agree with me you are welcome here too! Want to have a civil discussion here? Go for it. You are welcome!
All are welcome. This is Wizards Unite!
Condition to posting here.
BE NICE, IF YOU CAN'T BE NICE, BE RESPECTFUL . This is Wizards Unite!
Players are angry. That comes from being very passionate about this game. We all get that. Wizard's unite is what we all have in common. We WILL have different opinions that is welcome here too!
Some of our games where set back. YES I collected fragment before the warning. I had between 120 and 150 of all the wands on the challenge pages, and they went to 14!
The following is my opinion and perspective. Anger for me is counter productive to finding creative solutions. I'm a problem and puzzle solver. Not very challenge has a solution. And failure is always a possibility.
Life happens, things change and unexpected calamitous things happen. (Pun intended)
Players lost fragments that took time to accumulate . Yep You Betcha!
Did you enjoy playing the game before the update?
Are you still playing after the update. If you're here then I'm betting the answer is Yes.
Do you still enjoying playing the game. If not why are you still investing your valuable time playing a game you don't like?
I spent a lot of time in upper Dark Chambers to get my wand fragment collection. I am one witch in a huge local group. Before quarantine we fortress-ed very Saturday for 5+hours, for months. I get the time investment. (I'd really hate to see the background data on my time in game!)
Personal feeling about losing 1000's of wand fragment. Well S** ** that S***ed (my stars) and lots of other colorful language. A few days and real life go on. Do I really want to spend emotional energy angry about something I didn't ask and had no control over.
Nope! This game is an escape. I liked playing before and I still like playing. Then it became, well at least I only need 14 for the new fragment system. I'll have to fortress a lot with my favorite group of people, to get my wand fragments back. WOW I love playing with that group of people. Ok this too is survivable. Other players may feel differently. Vent with out insulting others-Please.
I have spent money on the game? Yep! Some from google surveys and some real world money. I found the game entertaining and a valuable distraction. I spent what I was comfortable spending within my budget. Mostly vault extensions and cauldron rental.
I don't feel that WB, WU or Niantic owes me money back. Other players feel differently. Please take it up in private with WB, WU or Niantic.
What I find absolutely disheartening is this creative welcoming space has devolved into an alarming negative environment. It has become a hard place to come visit. I participate in very little social media so I loved it when I found a magical global community here. I looked forward to seeing what fun and interesting things were happening here. I can't say this is a enjoyable environment right now. I hope it will recover. I find that repetitive posting of similar rants in several threads with the apparent intent to create anger, chaos, personal attacks, and name calling players and WB, WU, and Niantic staff is driving me (and others) away for a group I enjoyed previously. I hope we can be come Stronger United once again.
We all bring our individual perspectives filters and goals to the game and to the forum. We are going to have disagreements and different opinions. We can with some care and patience do so respectfully. We are all human, make mistakes, get angry and make assumptions. Growth comes when we care enough to learning from uncomfortable conversations. Growth and change are hard. If you value this place please make the effort.
If I have ever made a comment or a post that made you personal feel diminished, marginalized, dismissed or insulted I offer you my sincere apology. I will try to learn from my mistake a do better in the future.
TL;DR
Be kind, be respectful, don't name call and apologies are priceless!
If you did read to the end, thank you! Be the welcoming voice of understanding, help, and creativity you would like to find here.
Thanks for these reminders @Owlx. Always worth saying again.
I think we have all been impacted to some degree by real world events as well. Whether that is lockdown, illness or loss in relation to the pandemic, or people scared, hurt or angry (or possibly all three) at the situation in the US righy now. Emotions are running high and they can often spill over.
I think it is really important to remember that there are human beings on the other side of the screen. Some of whom have been through **** and back over the last few months, and we would never know.
Wow!!! @Owlx that has gotta have beaten any of my essays!!? Surely!! 😂
Yay hon!! That is exactly what I was meaning in the Forum 2.0 thread- cos any new player coming here would miss the sense of fun, comradery and sheer joy in the game we all were welcomed into.
I felt totally safe as a newbie to ask questions, and not be scoffed at for misunderstanding things- I thinks it's always been my trademark tbh & people would know they'd have to give a bit of leeway as my brain is always in laa laa land!! Lol
The forum had utterly descended into a place that i didn't feel safe in, or wanted to visit, as you have mentioned elsewhere- there's enough negativity out in the real world & we have always celebrated the game as a welcome respite from that.
You have hit the nail on the head with the fact that if you are still playing, and coming to the forum, then surely the reasons you still play are for the love of the game- not anger or frustration.
Therefore it should follow that you will talk about the things that have gone wrong, seem highly unfair etc... but what about the parts you still enjoy?
It's not saying that negative comments aren't welcome, cos we all have those right now that we can lay down. It's more about- ok- but where has the general chat gone? About the things we still love, about when the game still motivates us, makes us smile or laugh, brings us together with friends all over the world? We need some of that too!
They made a mess, but the game still rocks!! And if you are new here it would be hard to find anywhere before to chat about that recently.
Im sooooo chuffed butties to see people now starting to talk about the game & some of the good stuff again!!! Thank you for sharing those wise words ❤
We need that balance. I think we’ve all missed the old days of the fun camaraderie on here. There’s been too much negativity and not enough positivity.
“We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on...that’s who we really are.” - Sirius Black / JK Rowling
Totally agree @Magpie31 ! That is what I felt had been lost at the moment, the balance of the good things that are the reason so many of us are still playing, every day, as normal.
And was worried that anyone new to the forum would definitely not be able to get a sense of the comradery you mention @MrSciGuy in the fun and balanced way that we experienced it. And that's how we made friendships from our chat about the things that were driving us nuts, but also the things we were loving soooo much!!
And we also put through many suggestions about how to improve the game, a new feature we thought would be great, then others would agree and hopefully expand the ideas, which the devs listened to and acted upon! All because we would pop on each day, have a look at a new thread & comment.
As it stood over the past couple of weeks, there definitely wasn't the encouragement visable to chat about anything but the current issues. Where's the incentive in that to put forward ideas about gameplay, or even to discuss it!? Not really there was it- so I'm really glad there are fresh topics about the game to discuss now alongside the threads about the updates 😊❤
yes words hurt, and yes you can find great movie quotes to back up that statement. But life is not as simple as a movie and anonymous life on the net is even more complicated!
however you have the choice to scroll past, ignore, and in some places simply block those you don’t agree with. And I get it, your safe space got overrun by these ugly people that came here to vent. Your happy place got overrun by an angry mob that was incensed by changes to the one thing that was anchoring them in a world of chaos.
ive posted a few times here with problems, and yes I came here to vent about the fragment issue. I didn’t have to vent because it seems it was covered fully by others. I did add my 2 cents into some posts.
your community got overrun by these a “people” really set me off tho! It’s not “your” community
and these angry people have every right to say what they want, their real world is in chaos and changes to their fantasy world have added to that chaos! This game(and many others) is an escape for many from a worldwide pandemic, and now the resulting chaos from media driven news! Their one outlet is to vent online and you sit in your mutable fortress and pretend it’s immutable! Tune it out and move on, it will wash away like everything else and your safe comfortable little space will return.
these angry people have every right to say what they want
Within reason, yes. Everyone has the right to voice their criticism and discontent. Everyone has the right to suggest improvements and point out unexpected behavior and bugs.
However there are a certain number of things that are prohibited, as written in the Terms of Use. One of those things I would like to quote (as written down under the point "Your Interactions with Other People"):
You agree that in conjunction with your use of the Services, you will maintain safe and appropriate contact with other players and other people in the real world. You will not **** threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights of others. You will not trespass, or in any manner attempt to gain or gain access to any property or location where you do not have a right or permission to be, and will not otherwise engage in any activity that may result in injury, death, property damage, nuisance, or liability of any kind.
So while you have every right to voice your opinion, your choice of words and expressions matters.
@Lucoire i wasn’t referencing actual words, didn’t care to, but there is always the stickler. I think moderators can be the ones deleting those posts, and we all know that and also know that the OP wasn’t referencing it. So you can cut and paste and list and comment, it’s what trolls do, not saying you’re a troll, just recognizing a key tell.
@BocaG perhaps you should look up the definition of an internet troll. You will find that @Lucoire is far from that definition. He is often one of the first to post to help out people, he is polite, and unlike the few posts I have seen from you, he doesn't attack people. Please be aware of your own behavior.
We all have issues with the game and have vented on here. Attacking others is not acceptable.
I’ve never attacked a specific person, and I m offended by your insinuation I have. I know what a troll is, I’ve been dealing with message boards for over 40 years going back to the early years of bulletin board systems. I just don’t like what I read in this thread because I see it and have seen it in countless gaming communities. I’m not afraid to call it out or to be ostracized by said communities. And with that I walk away.. good day
@BocaG I am truly sorry that you read this thread as an "us vs them" thread.
Yes, there was an element of talking about how people in the community previously bonded, and wanting new members to have similar opportunities, but it certainly wasn't intended to have a flavour of "otherness" or alienation. It wasn't intended as people "owning" the community but using first person possessive pronouns to indicate belonging.
The original post in this thread came about because there was some absolutely vile behaviour happening elsewhere in this forum, much of which has been deleted by moderators, and certain sanctions and consequences implemented as a result.
Thankfully, the community has started to heal in the last couple of weeks. Though there are still understandably unhappy people, there is more balance and discussion and engagement.
Many Goups and Communities consider themselves "inclusive" - meaning that anyone who wants to belong to that Group or Community... can simply do so without any additional requirements.
However, inclusion always goes both ways. You can't expect to be included and at the same time want to exclude others - that doesn't work. It is safe to state that inclusion requires tolerance.
So as much as we talk about community we should never forget to treat each other nicely and with dignity. As much as we vent and argue, we should never forget that the breaking point for any community is the point where the unwritten rule of tolerance is violated.
Anyone and everyone is welcome here but at the same time anyone is also expected to return and pass on that feeling of "being welcome".
Thought I’d bring this one back to light. I applaud @Magpie31 for saying what needed to be said about consistent moderation. Unfortunately it was closed for comments immediately, so no one else could add their thoughts. I assume it was to avoid a possible negative turn, but how about giving us the benefit of the doubt and seeing where it goes?
Obviously there was an issue with communication of the TTD brew time, and of course there was a lot of outcry about it, and rightly so. Many people deleted tons of other ingredients and purchased vault upgrades based on that information.
Unfortunately in all the frustration there were several rude and inappropriate things said. Some of them oddly have been deleted, others remain at the time of writing this, despite seeing numerous flags on them.
So @Magpie31 was absolutely right in calling for more consistent moderation. Hopefully the @HPWUTeam can do better.
she was nice, id not have said bless your heart after that quote at the start id have said something intensely more rude. Words do matter and WB have shown that they are 100% unresponsive to non hate, also just the way you put that 1st quote there after all the frustration and the anger a large portion of the community feels....it feels condescending and patronising, even if you may not have meant it so. Words do have power as does timing. Your timing sucked.
And tdlr i didnt read your wall of text rant....waaayyy too long.
I can't help but notice how the tone in the forum has become harsh, volatile - mostly fueled by anger and frustration.
Thing is, anger is a self-fueling emotion. It won't solve any issues, it won't satisfy, and it will only cause harm. It cannot do anything but create more of itself.
So why not try a different approach? What about compassion, patience? Maybe empathy or understanding?
Comments
Indeed! So be it.
Absolutely!! Choose them wisely! 😊

@Owlx Well said! ❤️😊
What a wall of text. LoL
A good wall of text. 👍
For me something like this (online games update turn dissastrous) is happened many times.
So it'd make me always play in moderation, well scarcity of poi and spawns also help that playstyle. 😬
I agree with you @Kodokmag!
@Owlx you did such an amazing job summarizing how lots of us are feeling right now!!
