For those who were wondering, I tried deleting a friend and re-adding them but it didn't count towards the "make 1 new friend" challenge. Perhaps you have to restart the app in between... or you just have to find new friends :P

Thanks for all the info, I have tried finding ingredients for the necessary potions since I spent them all trying to solo last community day, but had very little luck with plant diversity, keep finding the same things, despite having been in several different towns and cities. Nor am I currently able to harvest what I plant in greenhouses :(
Haven't completed the first task yet, have yet to get myself to a fortress, but at least I know not to immediately brew the aforementioned potions if I find all I need before I get to that task.

Can anyone confirm if week 1 brilliant portmanteau will provide the week 2 prize or do we need to specifically pick them up once week 2 has officially started?
@Curst During brilliant events, week one portmanteaus will always yield week one fragments even if opened during week two. You specifically need to pick up and open week two portmanteaus to get the week two fragment.
The only thing that carries over to yield week two fragments from week one are runestones.
so, it took me 5 stronger united runestones playing at sponsored fortress tower chambers 1, 2, and 3 to get the 3 brilliant adult hermione fragments for placing that image
then, it took me 8 stronger united runestones playing at sponsored fortress tower chambers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 to get the first 2 brilliant flock of interdepartmental memos (FOIM) fragments [actually, i got those 2 fragments in first 3 tries, then hit horrendous streak of 5 blanks and/or more brilliant hermione fragments, no matter which tower chamber i played in ... so i decided to take a break for lunch and try my luck elsewhere]. it took me 2 more stronger united runestones playing at an unsponsored fortress in tower chamber levels 1 and 3, to get the final fragment needed to place that brilliant FOIM image.
tip ... make sure you have plenty of brilliant stronger united runestones to try for these fragments of each of brilliant adult hermione and brilliant FOIM.
@FritLyreleaf - the spoilered information in the guides regarding upcoming brilliant events and/or community days comes from HPWU itself - usually @HPWUFazes as cited by the guides - so it is totally up to the individual player whether to use all the tips and hints offered in the guides, or not. but there is nothing ig-noble about using such information ... that is what it is there for.
if a professor / teacher was offering a study guide for an upcoming test back in school, i certainly would not ignore it to prove that i did not need it (and risk failure or other unsatisfactory result).
but for folks who “like to be surprised”, whatever floats their boats (or sinks them).
I’ve also been batting zero with runestones. I’ve gone through maybe 8 and I’ve had no luck. It was getting so bad I actually had to make sure I was using the correct ones.
the event guide at wizardsunitehub.info excerpt shown above suggested Tower chambers 1 and 2. i interpreted that as a minimum and therefore, rather than trying any ruins chambers at all, i did all my battling between Tower 1 and Tower 5.
don’t know about trying at Forest level chambers, but that seems a bit of overkill
@kiheikid Of all things, I did ruins 2 because I needed a quick fortress battle before midnight. What do you know, I ended up with my last Hermione fragment!

Yup, I used 25+ Stronger United rhinestones and got all of Hermione but only one Flock of Memos fragment, Ruins IV up to Tower IV.
