Suggestion: For Improved Professor Balance
First, let me state that I am very much an Auror not a Professor.
Professors can get somewhat balanced with the other professions once maxed out, yet there are still some odd gaps. My focus is specifically on the skill "On Sabbatical."
- The good: +12 power is a lot!
- The bad: The lore here makes no sense. How is Beauxbaton somehow effective in this way? Where does this come from?
You take a short sabbatical to Beauxbatons Academy of Magic to study with Madame Maxime. Her work is transformative and you increase the amount of damage you can inflict in combat against Impaired Foes.
- The ugly: over 10% of a professor's potential power is locked behind Auror skills. Not only that, Auror's are required to cast both of their impairments even when one may be otherwise unnecessary.
My suggestion is now made possible by the addition of potion carry over. I would call it "Secrets of the Half-Blood Prince" and the effect is one additional cast be added to the potion a professor uses. This makes sense in the lore that the professor unlocks greater secrets of potion making and is thus able to produce more effective potions.
The balance is works like thus. Exstimulo increase damage output significantly. When using a potion Professors would manage to outpace damage from any other class by a significant amount due to that extra cast especially as their odds of a critical during the potion rises substantially. However, it isn't unbalanced vs other professions since this is locked behind a time wall to brew and is only in effect when a potion is used (obviously). Outside of the fortress this balances professors who are normally weaker against oddities. As potions carry over, they would be able to bank potions and basically guarantee 1 hit kills on oddities during a community event that is focused on them. Additionally they would be slightly better at being able to catch the foundables through dawdle drought and exstimulo. This makes sense in that magizoologists are focused on beasts and Aurors on combat. Professors should be a little better at dealing with the calamity.
Overall I think that this idea would not give Professors a boost making them way better than the other professions, but would instead cover some gaps while adhering to the lore.
What are your thoughts? I'd really appreciate input by all the other professions into how they would see a change such as this. I'm an Auror, but I think it makes a lot of sense.

as a professor, i like the idea of trying to correct the imbalance. we professors have been nerfed enough - reparations are due
thank you, @Ginnungagap for putting on your thinking cap on our behalf
So here's my 2 knuts
I love the lore. Secrets of the Half-Blood Prince is the perfect name of an added professor lesson!
I enjoy playing as a professor. In the nature of the game each profession as to have strengths and weaknesses. I know Aurors are power houses against foes. I don't expect to have Auror power. (Otherwise I have the free choice in my game play to change professions)
@Ginnungagap your idea shows a lot of thought to keep play fair and improve professional balance.
@HPWULola as professor I'm very much in favor of this.
I mostly solo Fortress and have found even at a pretty powerful level 13 Prof. it's hard to solo over tower 4 too potion expensive. I usually spend 30+ minutes a day in fortresses 5 days a week.
I like the idea of more power for my potions.
I keep about 130 to 175 potions on hand. And rent a cauldron regularly.
I have done a few group Fortresses. It could be helpful in group play. I can see this helping with acromantulas. The Aurors in the group struggle with them.
This seems like an implementible idea that will improve our wizard universe.
Thank you

Hi @Ginnungagap , to be awkward (of course lol)
Could I ask you to explain briefy what deficiences the profs have over the other professions to warrant such a change?
Ive looked at the professor tree briefly in past, but (for me) unless I were actually playing as one then I wouldn't be able to fully understand it.
I know that many proessors have complained about how they get a raw deal in the fortress & on event quests with confoundables . But I don't understand how?
So a summary of that info if you or any Professors on here have the time please, would really help me (and probably some others) with why they should have a skill like the one outlined.
Cos it sounds awesome- I want it!! Lol (also an Auror) and it seems like quite a big advantage to be gained. Not only an extra go with a potion but for the potion to be stronger too (which is great use of the lore btw).
Are they so disadvantaged that such a boost is needed? And if so why was it designed like that? Aurors have proficiency against dark forces, Magiz's against beasts, Professors against Curiosities, so that isn't an equal to that for profs? If so, that's not right at all is it!?
I do find it hard to step into a professors shoes without having fully tried & tested their trees to see why their proficiency doesn't mean they can have the same successes in fortress battle & on map once they build up their stats?
Sorry to be a pain!!
@AuroraKadavra it's no problem at all. The easiest way for me to show the balance is with a bunch of math. I will put something together tomorrow for it.
@Ginnungagap - face plant- noooooo! Not math!! 😂😂😂😂
Im Englishy, imagination, arty!! My brain doesnt math! Haha!
Kidding hon, that would be good cos i dont like not understanding something important about the game like that.
The idea you've had is just brilliant, i love it!! And total kudos to you for giving up your time to work on that & then come up with a solution!
So i just don't understand how the game was made to make profs get a raw deal, i thought they'd be equally balanced just in different ways.
Ahem- Queen @HPWULola , could we get Gin signed up for a job here please? Clearly warranted! 😀
Ps @Ginnungagap - don't forget the metaphors- u kno how i love those! 😀
Wow, look at this research!! @Ginnungagap, perhaps you are an Auror but you have the brains of a mighty Professor! I'll pass this feedback thread along to the team. However, stay tuned! We have some fun things coming up soon!
