notes on conquering dark chamber 1 as solo professor

2019-10-26 first victory at dark chamber 1 (after two previous defeats) - used 4 potent exstimulo, 5 strong exstimulo, 5 wit sharpening (against two elites), 6 healing, and 3 strong invigoration (for protection and proficiency) - 8 foes were erklings, death eaters, werewolves, and pixies; no acromantulas; no dark wizards
used a Wonders of Wizarding World level 2 runestone
finished with about 30 seconds left
decided to attack the elite death eater and the elite werewolf first, and concurrently used wit sharpening and potent exstimulo to maximize punch against those 2 foes. if those 2 foes took up too much of my time, i was prepared to bail out of this challenge to save my remaining spell energy and potions (nothing so disheartening as using up spell energy and potions yet still run out of time and get the defeated banner).

forgot to say, i am currently a fairly recently leveled up level 33 professor
i intentionally did not take a baruffio brain elixir, because i was half-expecting to fail again like my first two attempts at dark chamber 1 and i did not want to waste my precious BBE, which i save for fortress **** at more comfortable lower levels between tower chamber 3 and forest chamber 1.
Congrats @kiheikid ! That’s exciting. I believe I just unlocked Forest 2 or 3. Also solo professor (level 30), but I’m much stingier with my potions which is probably why I’m not higher up yet. I’ll just have to brew a bunch specifically to try getting further.
thank you @MrSciGuy
i failed in my first two attempts because i ran out of healing potions the first time, and was unable to use as many potent exstimulos the second time as i could have if i did not have to reserve 5 potent exstimulos for the then upcoming week 2 of brilliant fighting forces event ... time is the big factor (in my opinion) for solo challenges at dark chamber 1 and above
i would be interested in learning what the differences are in time elapsed, not in damage points inflicted, between using potent exstimulo potions versus strong exstimulo potions, and stacked versus unstacked with wit sharpening in case of elite foes, versus no potions boost, when a solo player (ideally a professor) takes on foes in dark chamber levels. it would be logistically difficult to replicate trial conditions to cover so many variables, but maybe someone here with more resources (potions, time, etc) like @Valki
or @LekeyVelder would be up to tackling such a research assignment!
@kiheikid - Try killing the soft targets first which for us Professors are Werewolves and Pixies, build up Focus then Hex Elites / others bearing in mind how many Focus points each will reward.
Systematically take out foes according to their strength, weakest first
You should find you use fewer potions overall
@OriginalCaruso
hmm, interesting - so you as solo prof would open up without strong invigoration, and without det hex, against the soft targets first, then use built up focus from defeating those soft targets to later use proficiency (7focus) and protection (3focus), and det hex later opponents (3focus each) ?
my initial focus is maxed at 4 without invigoration, without defeating foes, without transfers of focus from auror, so will it take the first 3 foes (if i am lucky and each carries +3) or 4 foes (if i am not and one or more only carries +2), for me to get to 13 focus total (9 from foes plus 4 initial) ? that seems to be using up valuable time without benefit of hex & charm buffs, even if those initial foes are “weakest” (ie, i am proficient against them).
i think i can do all that at a forest chamber but wonder about dark chamber ... it will take me a while to replenish my depleted potions inventory via brewing, before i can experiment a bit with your approach.
@kiheikid - it’s not an “all or nothing” proposition and the approach can vary according to opponents
I cast Protection charm before anything as preserving stamina is really important and reduces the number and frequency of using healing potions
Then I would take out the Pixies and Werewolves out first without Invigorating though I may need to Exstimulo depending on whether they are Dangerous or Fierce
Don’t forget you can attempt a foe and exit after attacking as another hopefully weaker foe may have appeared
Assuming one or two Pixies / Werewolves have been despatched, you should have 3+ Focus to spend at which point you can decide whether to Hex your next opponent or build more focus to cast Perfection later
Not forgetting to heal yourself for 4 points at every opportunity
With this approach you should save both potions and the time to use potions whilst preserving stamina from the outset
Let me know how you get on - good hunting
@OriginalCaruso - thank you! i still have to brew, brew, brew ... but once i am ready, i definitely plan to try your gameplan for Dark 2 !
