Community Day (9/21) disappointment

I recently learned that during the event today there were double XP for certain fortresses. I am deeply disappointed in the WU team for not communicating this to players. I have been looking for ways to meet fellow witches and wizards as I happen to be in a new community. Today would have been an AMAZING opportunity to do so had I been informed. A community day should really draw the community together and today's event would have done so if only we knew about the possibilities! I am really hoping this is the last time we are not informed about such opportunities by the WU team.

PS more opportunities to earn restricted books would be AMAZING.

This day was SO disappointing. I was really looking forward to filling up some items and prestiging pages. NOPE. Today was garbage. The only "rare" item I got all day was the Time-Timer. And I got it 30 times. While the double XP with the brain elixir was nice, it would have REALLY been nice to fill those blank, whites spots with something....

I played in a couple different spots and was sorely let down. I actually got more "rare" traces from the 3 dark dectors I used to finally get some traces.

Did pick up some erumpet horns. However, I refuse to brew/waste this potion when all the traces I pick up are the same ones over and over and over and.....

Double Baruffio XP, double Challenge XP, double Dark Detector time and reduction of a specified potion brew time are the hallmarks of Community Day. Sorry to hear you didn't get to take full advantage of these benefits but you can expect these to be the focus of each Community Day.

This calls for a “back in my day” story.

Back in my day, games had all sorts of features you could discover or unlock that weren’t mentioned anywhere in the game itself, nor in the player manual that came with the game. We had to find them on our own. There was no internet where players could share tips and tricks. Want to find a hidden extra life? Jump around like a lunatic until you find it!

Leaving bits of content or features out there for players to discover on their own is how games have always worked. Being told exactly where to go and what to do in order to get rewards isn’t a game. It’s just following instructions, and that sounds incredibly boring.

@Acumen Back in the day :

    • games came with a manual containing decent info (And not something published later and available to purchase.)
    • games were also mostly released finished, with as few bugs as possible, and no microtransactions for every single thing (yes, this is a free game, but still, calls to buy are everywhere, making it unsuitable for part of the supposed audience.)
    • And without going back too far, many games came out on CD-ROM, which meant 1/5th of the current space taken by this app...

A good example of trying to find hidden stuff could have been the Portkeys, if those weren't limited to clicking particle effects. You could attempt to use the spells you know on different objects in the scenes. (incendio on candles and fireplaces, alohomora on various doors and locks...) As is, we get potential bonuses available for three hours every month if we try things. If we can.

Meanwhile, the bulk of the game is an infinite repetition of the same action, with little thought behind it, and for the most part, not even a decent plot as an explanation. And we're talking about the HP universe. I like to think that something more might have been possible there.

That's cool, @DubiousAffairs, you're welcome to express as many opinions as you like about how the game should be different. You're not right or wrong. It's just your opinion, and you're entitled to it. Though I will say that your opinion hardly sticks to the point here. I totally agree that the story line isn't very interesting, but that isn't what we're talking about.

I just don't think it's a big deal that they didn't mention the double XP at sponsored fortresses. Even if they had, there would be just as many people posting about what a terrible injustice it is to those who don't have access to a sponsored fortress. These players claim that all their whining and complaining is because they're the ones who really care about the game and its success. I just think they're annoying, and I'm entitled to my opinion too.

    @YoGL06 @DubiousAffairs

I understand your frustrations about the communication.

@Acumen I understand your point defending the devs who are working their best to give us an enjoyable game (who would want to spend their time working on something that they mean for people to dislike).

In the end I just want to say a few things. First, please let's try our best to ensure things don't come out like personal attacks on each other or the devs. Everyone is here because they love Harry Potter and want the best possible experience from this game. As with all things that will mean praise and critiques. This post has seemed to start down a path about the people playing/making the game rather than the game itself.

Second, let's also make sure we keep things in perspective. In the end this was a three hour event that happens monthly. As has been pointed out, some people don't get the opportunity to experience any of it at all. For those that didn't get dou let challenge xp that wish they did, It means a total possible loss of 3 hours and the runes to make up for it. With someone so passionate about the game, I'm sure that is extremely small relative to the investment in the game now and in the future.

Let's all work to improve the game, but also let's improve the community.

I feel you, @Ginnungagap. For the record, I'm neither bashing the game nor defending it. I should refrain from commenting on these types of threads, because I just can't relate to having any strong feelings about a silly mobile game. It's the same as being passionate about solitaire. It's a complete waste of one's time and therefore shouldn't inspire any feelings of passion or commitment. Go ahead and play the game during those moments when you don't feel like doing anything productive, or if it helps to make your evening walks a bit more entertaining. If you don't like the game or the events simply don't work with your schedule, it would probably be much better for your emotional health to find a game you do enjoy rather than invest any amount of time feeling angry at this game.

I would have been happy with just seeing an increase in Mysterious Object Foundables.  I saw lots of Time-Turners, sadly not enough for a sticker.  The rest did not increase in spawns.  Even with 2 inns with 3 DDs each, and the WU incense, no change in the spawn rate of Mysterious Objects.  WU just can not execute a proper community day.

People have jobs and so far the community day 3 hour event is not working for me or for lots of others because we have to work there should be a 24 hour window for this so everyone con at least get some time to play not only the kids that don't have jobs and responsibilities to . Older people that have jobs like to play the game also. So sad they can't participate in the the 3 hour session.😞

I hope they announce all the Bonuses this time for the October Community Day so we can take full advantage of it.
