Keep track of game announcements without Twitter or Facebook.
This post addresses a need mentioned by @Digitalis but may be of general interest.
How can you find out about game events without having a Twitter or Facebook account?
You can always read the announcements by going to the official Twitter stream but how can you get notified? https://twitter.com/HPWizardsUnite
You can use IFTTT to notify you https://ifttt.com/connect/twitter/if_notifications
It will require an IFTTT account but you may find those terms more acceptable.

@Osprey1 you are a credit to the community, your posts and contributions are very well thought out and in my opinion pretty valuable.
at current my phone plan sees a work reimbursement, and as such is beholden to the terms of my employer, which explicitly prohibit use of or access to facebook and twitter. both companies are explicitly prohibited from being accessed through my device, and i do not own a regular computer.
i had to get IT to sign off on ingress, pokemon, and wizards unite for permission to be able to install them on my device, and our company app monitors all internet traffic.
ifttt seems like a great solution/workaround for most people but would certainly cost me my job if i install it.
I really wish there was another way, but for me there is not - twitter and facebook are just prohibited to me, unless i want to pay out of pocket for my own phone plan completely.
the company wont cover an entire phone plan for me, only a portion of it at my employment level. i really cant justify the cost of two phone plans to the other people in my personal life my finances are mixed with, and i cannot do my job without my company app.
kinda not a great situation from the perspective of being a wizard, but being a wizard is only part of my personal life.
i was not trying to really get into all of this in the other thread, too far off topic, but ive been on this road for a few years now.
honestly if we could just get announcements of things put out by the game at least here in the community it would be helpful. having to rely on a third party service that may not be available to people is...not really a great practice for critical information about the game.
what would be really helpful is a news feed the way pokemon has a news feed in game - that way everyone could get their information from within the game...but barring that at least utilizing the announcements section of the forums would be helpful.
i know i am not everyone, but i guess i represent an example of how relying on an outside media service players may be banned or prohibited from using can ostracize or leave uninformed steady members of the playerbase.
You could use IFTTT without installing it configuring it through a web browser and getting notifications through email, I think.
Currently my washer and dryer notify me through discord when they're done
I'll check into it,
but I may even be able to get it to post herewhenever HPWizardsUnite tweets (as long as it's not a TOS violation.)Edit: You can no longer monitor Twitter directly without logging in but you can use an anonymous RSS feed from a third party to monitor a Twitter stream, you can then use IFTTT to send a notification by email or SMS.
most sensible thing to do (since we all play almost every day) would be to create announcements button in app - i’d suggest inside the check-marked box in lower right hand corner of map screen, as an additional tab next to daily assignment or special. with a red dot, of course
I'm pretty computer/phone illiterate. I have no idea what IFTTT is. In game notifications are my preferred way of notification.
This is managed in Pogo. Surely the same technology could be used?
As I said, I'm not tech literate so maybe that's just an impossible dream.
