Changing Professions
I am almost at the close of finishing all of the Auror lesson plans. I am considering changing professions. Should I do this, and let's say I become a professor, do I still keep all the proficiencies I have already acquired as an Auror? I don't want to give them up at all. I just want to be a well rounded player. I also don't want to start from scratch either.

You can switch freely between professions and not lose progress. Side note: I wish I had your stockpile of red skill books!
@Kangocho I'm guessing it's a stockpile of scrolls, not red books. That's definitely the case with me as I work the cross train Magizoo.
You definitely can switch, and you won’t lose progress made on any professions. But your active profession is the only set of skills you’ll carry into a fortress. You won’t have both auror and professor skills at same time. As long as you understand that, happy learning!
@Lenwii how did you aquire so many redbooks? That is what is holding me up at this point. Everything left for me requires red books and at 2 redbooks earned at a time, that is going to take me awhile. What tips can you offer?
I've actually just recently became a "baby magizoo" as I like to call it, haha. I mean, I was stuck with nowhere to go with professor, and in my group almost every single player is a professor, and we only have one Magizoo who shows up rarely.. so I figured I'd switch so I can help out whenever possible.
But I'm currently only feeding it normal scrolls, no red(brown) books or green ones. Still saving those for Professor, because I am still a completionist at heart... and really wanna finish professor ASAP!
so glad you asked this, @kangacho , as I have wanted to do the same thing. I have hundreds of scrolls and no spell books and would love to try something else! I may try a Magizoo, too!
@Minervina19 one of us! One of us!
@JulieJubz Level 4 baby magizoo here :)
Problem is right now I just sit around in high fortresses and it gets boring. Even something like 4 free green books could help advance to the sweet skills! But right now need next 30 green books for my prof.
I used to play a game called battle stations where you could actually have two classes/professions and carry a selected number of skills from both to fights. Hope WU can incorporate something like that to make levelling up a second profession worthwhile!
I have over 1500 scrolls I'm sitting on. I really like my Auror profession and I'm unsure what the next book in the tree is going to look like. If we have another brilliant event like the last one I will probably start a second profession though.
I'm personally stockpiling everything to knock out the next release for Professor. Since you can only use one class at a time and I'm sure lvl2 is going to be expensive on the scroll side(though hopefully cheap on the books side...)
I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that the new lesson plans will be similar to a Sub-Class Format to allow us to select traits particular to our game play.
primarily auror - so restricted books, red books go strictly towards my primary profession, but those scrolls do add up. especially if you have the time to hit the brilliant events hard when they happen.
have done the zoo and professor skill trees as complete as possible investing only scrolls, no books of any sort, and have 1,300+ scrolls and counting with nothing i can spend them on at current.
if you count up how many scrolls it will take to finish all the skills remaining in your primary profession, you can use that as your target number. once you 'bank' that many scrolls it surely seems like good advice to start learning profession skills in the other professions not your primary.
it is my personal opinion that people who picked professor as their primary, following the theory of both types of books only towards primary profession, won the game from the perspective of learning skills in secondary professions with scrolls.
the professor tree is a convoluted mess of pathways blocked by needing books of some sort to unlock options. (as it should be, auror and zoo are pretty straightforward professions, but a professor is mysterious and intricate) ...and so if professor is your primary you are working the profession that requires the most study to master first.
auror tree is the easiest one to fill going scrolls only - and lets face it, auror really should be the least complicated. all magic is mysterious, but auror is the least so. this is as it should be, and i say that with a slight sigh as an auror. i kinda wish it was more complicated, but compared to zoo and especially professor they really got it right on skill tree design.
Scrolls are pretty plentiful, red books require effort to acquire, and restricted books are earned at the discretion of the masterminds running hogwarts. I think this system is very carefully and well designed, encouraging you to branch out and explore other professions - the more i think about it the less bothered by the requirements to obtain red books i become.
One wizards opinion, but mine is thus: if you are held back by needing books in your primary profession, freely spend those scrolls exploring the other two and see what you can find.
@Pamdm yesssss! More baby magizoo! haha
