Post Editor Enhancements

Please install the plugins needed to toggle an optional rich-text editor on posts and comments, along with the ability to upload images directly to a post. I understand hosting images locally would create greater storage demands on your end, but uploading images directly to the post is pretty standard in most forums like this one. It would significantly improve the user experience. Having to link to an external resource to share images is a pain.

Thank you!

Oh, and it's been mentioned before, but I'll mention it again. Please increase the timeout on the ability to edit posts from one hour to a minimum of 24 hours, or just do away with that entirely. I understand why having that in place might seem like a good idea, but really it does nothing to minimize the risk of activity that violates community policies.

Thank you again! You're doing great work. The admins are kind and professional. You should take the weekend off. Tell the execs I said it's okay.

Oh, could I add that, it would be nice if we could see the comments we have liked already, marked as liked? Sometimes I accidentally unlike comments because I can't tell if I've already gave them the thumbs up or not.

Hope it's not too much trouble and thank you!!

@JulieJubz I know I've already asked for that. I think others have too! Hopefully that will come along. I've unliked too many to count at this point!

I second everything here! Love these suggestions @Acumen . @JulieJubz I do that ALL the time and have to go back and relike.

To add to @JulieJubz suggestion: It would also be nice to make visible which other users have liked something because we can only see a count, not who actually liked something. I like posts all the time and some of mine have been liked but I'm always left wondering who it was.

Oh I didn't know it had already been suggested! My bad, haha. There's so many posts on this forum now, sometimes it's hard to look through everything :)

@Herm10neG92 I totally just liked everyone's response here, just so you know. Haha ❤️

@JulieJubz I did the same thing 😅 and checked to make sure I hadn’t unliked too. Force of habit now

Thanks for the sweet words @Acumen! I'm not sure the what the current possibilities are regarding the first Community enhancement request but I will relay the message next week and see what I can do!

If I am correct, users can upload images to their comments and discussions? There should be an icon underneath the comment box, to the right of the smiley face? I assume that users have seen that because I have seen comments and discussions with photos?

Regarding the concept of increasing edit time, it is another feature in place to maintain a positive environment in the forum. I'll inquire to see if we can explore this change, but this one is hard to guarantee.

Thanks for checking into it, @HPWULola! While many of us have included images in our posts, this forum does not currently allow us to upload images directly to the post. We only have the option to upload the image somewhere else, like Google Photos or Imgur, then paste a link to the image in our post. It would be far more convenient for the community members if we could hit an image icon, like you see in most rich-text editors, which then brings up an upload dialog where you can browse your local device and choose and image to upload.

@Acumen You are genius X2! I would love to have access to finer formatting tools. Simple HTML would allow us to size, position and wrap text around images. I would love to create pretty looking posts, I'm kinda visual that way. I'm ok with restrictions like the current font size and such to keep things consistent site wide. Yet having more formatting options than our current selection would definitely enhance the user experience. I hope they consider your suggestion.

I would so love basic HTML tag ability and [img] embed.

It would be great to be able to literally paste an image into the post as many social media platforms and forums allow (without the need to save to HDD and upload).

I hope it gets installed too. It's a pretty simple addon, and it isn't asking for anything special. It'll just bring this forum up to par with any other, really. Currently, our formatting options are limited to basic markup. You can do a few things with it, but it's clunky. Here's a link to the Wiki Page.

That is absolutely incredible news. @HPWULOLA And @HPWUMicah always looking out. I echo @Acumen .

If y'all ever find yourselves in the Flint area, first, I'm sorry. THEN I'll buy you a round. You'll want the beer anyway because the water is intoxicating.

I also am very exited about this. I have tried embedding images from external sites...and although Osprey explained how to do it cleanly...I just couldn’t get the hang of it. Love the ability to easily add pictures here. I think this may make it easier for people to post screenshots of bugs they encounter as well.
