Share ingredients with friends

Why can’t you share ingredients and potions with friends? This seems like an oversight in the game.
It seems a waste to just dump items you don’t need or have too many. Plus friends could focus on brewing certain potions while you on others. It would be nice to be able to share!

This has come up before, and it is likely that some form of gift giving will be implemented in the future. There are a number of ways the ability to trade inventory could be abused, and those transgressions would be difficult to track. It’ll be a nice feature to have, though I’m not sure exactly what it’ll look like when/if it rolls out.
@Acumen they're tracking items just fine in Ingress. So that shouldn't be the problem.
