Phone Wants to Explode

Using a Pixel 3 XL and when I run HP:WU for a significant length of time, the phone tries to self incendio.

It gets really hot. I waited to post this until I could do some testing. On charger. Off Charger. In AC. In direct sun. Other high resource apps. etc.

Only HP:WU seems to reach nuclear fusion levels of heat (and shut itself off because of it).

For comparison, I've run Ingress Prime in direct sunlight for an hour straight with minimal heating. I've played Lineage II in direct sunlight with minimal heating (and LOTS of graphic animation). Nothing seems to heat up the phone like HP:WU. Evem in the afore mentioned situation of AC off charger does it get really hot. It doesn't get "auto shut off the phone" hot, but it gets "I should stop at dollar general and pick up some oven mits" hot.

    I am dealing with the same issues! I felt it was my phone because it is a older model, but I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.

    Same for a Samsung Galaxy S7. Even Pokemon Go does not heat up the fun or chew through battery as fast as HP:WU.

    I have a Pixel 3XL and no issues. I wonder what's really behind the heating issue here.. 🤔
