What gives with spell energy!! It’s so frustrating

I saved my iTunes cards and built up my spell energy to 500 just for the HP Brilliant Event part 2 and after going out and doing all the traces I could I got drained in 2 days! I mostly have great casts with many masterfuls yet the traces would take up to 20 (TWENTY) casts to get it to complete. I don’t get it.. i don’t live by inns, so when I get to go to one I can’t just sit there for hours to try and build up the energy that will always be lacking since u get mostly 3 spell energy per visit and a spell can take 5-2o casts to complete. I will always have a deficit so it seems we are supposed to offset this but buying energy which isn’t cheap. I mean.. 50 for 100$! It should at least be 50 for 50. I mean.. I thought this game was aimed at younger people. Who can afford this?? Is there something I’m missing??

This game is nearly impossible to play without access to a good energy supply. Both of Niantic's previous efforts also were unplayable in certain areas. There are a couple of things that you could to improve your experience. First, level up using the low foundables. These will require less energy to catch and when you level up you will improve your chance of catching higher level foundables. Second, use potions on higher level foundables. This will improve your odds of catching them and lower your energy drain.

It should be noted that the map can be affected by the players and that should be on your priority list to make the game more enjoyable. Also it is part of Niantic's mission statement to get you to go and visit other places. So it fits that they may want you to travel somewhere to play. Players, like myself, who live in an energy rich environment can play for free.

I am not convinced the game is aimed as much at younger players as much as it is at families. Therefore, as a family activity, it would be both time constrained and financially constrained by the family. It my teenagers were willing to play a game that had them out and walking everyday I would be happy to pay cash money.

im on level 29 btw.. and I know I’m not the only one who sees the issue of poor access to spell energy ( or inns and greenhouses) an issue. The point of the game is to be enjoyable to all who play, correct? And I’m also all for getting people of ALL ages out and moving.. amen to that! However.. if you live in a rural areal like myself and are UNABLE to travel to more metro areas it just seems unfair to have to spend almost $140 in 30 to keep the game running. I understand the company needs to make money but this seems a little extreme to me and that this will bite them in the end. I love the brilliant events but to get those cherished restricted books and the scrolls that can take forever since u only get like 2 points per found able ( seriously that needs to be more especially since it’s costing so much spell energy!!) I adore this game and I’ve invested sooo much time and money into but since I’m rural and it’s not easy to drive the hour and a half to the closest inn.. I’m going to have to quit it soon:(

@Osprey1 - I don't know if Ingress and PoGo were quite as unplayable, to be fair. Don't get me wrong... I'm LOVING this game or I wouldn't be so involved here in the forums. But it does have a lot of improvements that need to be made.

With Ingress, an agent picked up XM as s/he walked. I think they broke Ingress when they started using badges as leveling tools. Other than that, it was very playable. I'm still level 8 (or 9, I forgot) because I couldn't get necessary badge requirements for leveling. They actually went the opposite direction they needed to go in that game.

PoGo was more playable than WU because the reliance on pokeballs was mitigated by not requiring them at gyms (unlike WU where energy is needed for everything you need to do to progress) AND you could get pokeballs at gym spinners. There's definitely a severe imbalance when it comes to energy gain/usage in WU. I firmly believe that WU is working as intended in that it's a cash grab. Everything is very overpriced in terms of coins and then the coins themselves are pretty pricey when you consider their return value.

I'm L16 in Ingress and L40 in PoGO... and @Osprey1 is right in regards to the "unplayability" depending on the POI-Density.

@Craeft, there was a time in Ingress (as a result of STORYTIME) when there was no natural XM lying around and when the items to refill your XM bar were becoming increasingly rare. And while at first people revolted, it was a VERY NECESSARY chance to the gameplay - it kept things fresh and reminded players that there is a resource-requirement for their actions.

Pokemon has several resources needed for different parts of the game. Potions, Revives, Pokeballs, ... in that regard WU is a bit more simplified.

All 3 Games require players to refill their resources by visiting POI - which (as @Osprey1 mentioned) is difficult if there are (almost) no POI around.
