EDM = useless
When EDM is active, adversaries appear once every 10-15 minutes, sometime none, unlike TTD where one pops out every 30sec-1min. I don't understand why.

For me it is not a concern. They are very different items. The TFTD produces clusters of traces (usually a lot of non-flare traces and a few high level flares).
The EDM produces a string of foes. When I use an EDM it is when I know I won't have many interruptions. Yes the wait is tedious/boring so I engage in fortress chambers inbetween the adversaries and rank up Challenge XP for the red spell books.
Well it takes a to battle some foes and they have to consider the average player taking up to 7 minutes just to defeat one, (I take about 4 for a dragon chain), but I would be supporting a suggestion to maybe adjust EDM based on your level or how much of your combat tree you have completed, maybe a range of 8-4 mins, so we at least get 6 spawns in 1/2 an hour.
My experience with EDMs is that they bring up three adversary chains. One almost right away, the second one ten minutes later and the last one after 20 minutes.
Yes, @Lycindelle is correct. EDMs are designed to spawn 3 adversary chains. Usually at ten minute intervals, more or less. The original trace tonic only spawned 15 foundables (compared to 3 adversary chains of 3 challenging foes) so they are comparable in strength. The difference is that the tonics were adjusted for pandemic restrictions, meaning 30 traces minimum, plus skill tree bonuses.
Just hoping that when the game goes back, they don’t reduce the tonic back, 30 as a base is perfect, because as we all know spawn points are the most uneven thing about the Niantic games. Plus we don’t want any of the potions to become “useless”.
@HarryPutter1234 the TfTD will never be useless; there are too many places where you need it just to get the minimum number of traces to complete the daily tasks. Just do what I do - make sure that your phone vibrates everytime a trace pops up, and do Ruins Chamber fortress challenges or work on puzzles while waiting. It enables you to get the traces without getting bored.
That is what I do @Djea it definitely is way better than waiting.
@HarryPutter1234 I agree that the EDM adversary spawn duration should decrease as your level/combat level/SOS level increases. On average, I finish adversary chains in a minute or two. I use normal extimulo for draco, strong for greyback to wormtail, then potent on the dragons and narcisa.
