Feedback on Masterful Spell task

I am so disappointed with Niantic's continual disregard of players with a disability, but this is a new low. Flipendo is already one of the most difficult spells. My husband and I are hardcore players and have finished every event, including all bonus events, even if it meant working away at it for hours like the recent dragon adversaries. However, this one seems to be beyond us.
I have fibromyalgia and my husband has a neurological condition that impairs movement. We've both been trying all morning to achieve a masterful on flipendo as practice and neither of us have even come close. For the first time, I doubt we will finish an event :(.
If you're going to do something like this, at least put it in the bonus. Don't leave players with an unfinished event picture when there's so many other options, even with COVID lockdowns. Send gifts to friends? You haven't done that in a long while. I am so disappointed in you.

I have to agree. If they're going to create an event task that's dependent upon player dexterity, then either: A. It should be a part of the bonus tasks for the event instead of the main event where it effectively locks dedicated players out of placing all of the images in the registry OR B. The player should be able to lower the difficulty of the task by taking potions or spending gold. The fact that they insist on continuing to roll out main event tasks like this (Yes, I'm looking at you, "complete 5 great casts in a row") despite the player community's vocal complaints seems pretty brutal
I started playing Ingress early on and have since been having fun playing WU and PoGo. I’ve enjoyed the gameplay and challenges until now, when the Masterful Flipendo trace was introduced to complete the latest Brilliant Event. Not being able to complete an event will be the last straw. The fun is gone and I have spent too much money trying to keep up with the challenges. Maybe it was best that Niantic pushed me out of their gameplay so that I can enjoy other endeavors. Thanks Niantic.
I know your pain! I CANNOT get ONE Masterful on several spell types. Not sure I can get a Great....

I am in the same boat with arthritis. I’ve played daily since the game began - but can rarely even get a Great on a Flipendo and the 5 Great casts in a row was a killer. Really frustrated when I saw this requirement as is impossible for me to even try - waste of time, too. And not like Niantic hasn’t heard this before so I take it as a conscious decision on their part.
At some point, after the 100th impossibly self-destructive game design move, I realized these are not just incompetent game designers, they are functionaly bad people. There must be a culture there of self-destruction and hatred.
I’ve been playing since day 1. I’ve only casted 26 masterful spells. We all have to stand together and voice our opinion to Niantic. I’m not spending another dollar unless this objective is changed.

Flipendo basically punishes you for accuracy.

Its an odd spell that punishes true accuracy.
the red dots in the 1st image are the 'touch points' your finger 'has' to pass for the spell not to be a miscast.
the other 2 sc's are all masterfuls, maybe they can be a visual help for ppl to get masterfuls on that spell/task.

Hi, I remember seeing a comment giving advice to someone with MS to use some kind of spellcaster help app or hack?
I'd like to pass the info on to someone but can't find it back.
Does anyone know what it actually is? And is it safe so use or is it considered cheating ?
@Karmassus I was using Casterful, but the update to Android 11 broke it, so I had to have a friend do the Masterfuls for me. They need to just stop having Masterful tasks. It is so inconsiderate, as the OP pointed out.
@hpwulola as a predominant leftie player, I'm struggling to get masterful, even with the tips posted by others. I shouldn't have to run out 100 spell energy to try and complete a task! Can you help please? 😁

I have health troubles too, just not having to do with fine motors skills, so I get how frustrating it can be to know you won't be able to do something other people find easy no matter how hard you'll try.
I read some people prepare cardboard cutouts to place over their screen. I guess it depends how dedicated to the game you are.
Sure is easier for the support team to mark the task as completed.
It's validating to see others have had the same reaction as me. Even on days where I can cast consistently, half the time it feels like its gambling because identical shapes can register as good, great or masterful depending on the whims of the game. And I've been playing since the day the game was released and never achieved a masterful Flipendo. All the tasks in events should be achievable to an average player if they put enough time into them, this is just ableist.

I agree, I'm not going to be able to do masterful flipendo due to range of motion issues. Why they've decided to make masterful spells a mandatory in every event is very tedious.

I rolled my eyes when I saw masterful flipendo, but I figured ok they will hit the button that makes that somewhat possible. Nope. Well over 100 energies used and not even close. This is not including all the practice flipendo I did before it was actually needed. At the very least it should have been in the bonus.☹️
Even as an able-bodied person, I have never cast a masterful Flipendo in nearly 2 years of playing HPWU. Lately, the game developers have been setting almost impossible tasks such as 5 Great casts in a row and the laughable Adversaries event where you had to return a multitude of dragons but Dragon Foundables and Adversaries were nowhere to be found.
Niantic should take care not to **** off players so much that they stop playing the game.
Handicaps are preventing people from finishing this, and the previous, brilliant event, but other people have made complaints, too. This is what I came across:
- left handed people have a lot more trouble with spell casting than right handed people
- older phones struggle to process fast casts
Among handicaps mentioned were also arthritis and being double jointed. Quite a few players are older, not sure if you are aware of that.
(I managed to get the spells done, but at considerable effort. Please revisit your definition of fun.)
I also have arthritis, and while I have very occasionally managed a masterful on Meteolojinx and Aguamenti, I have never managed one on any other spell. (And I've been playing since the game opened from Beta.)
I would rather you didn't save such for the bonus round, because I need those DADA books too. Why don't you make an independent task and identify it for people with dexterity, so those of us who have problems won't waste time on it? It's maddening to complete 3 tasks, only to find out that i have no chance to complete the series.
However, THANKS @PomonaMroz for the suggestion. I'll give it a try. If only there's a similar way to manage the other spells, because Niantic wil undoubtedly continue trying to run off people with tasks like this.
I have extreme difficulty with masterful spells. It is rare to get one and never in flippendo. I have played since the beginning. At least put these in the bonus. I am disappointed in not being able to complete due to dexterity issue. Added note. Once I have up I got 2. Still unsure how. First masterful in a long time.
Adding another voice to,this complaint. 72 year old woman, Played since 2016. Getting an average of 5-7 flipendo spell traces per TTD potions. Have used 6 pink potions in the past 24 hours. Have gotten on my one masterful. This task is making e consider deleting the game. MemeWalsh48
I'm not disabled, so no need to fix it for me. BUT...an idea. In sign language, left-handed signers basically just reverse everything, and two-handed signs get labeled as "dominant hand" versus "non dominant hand." Could y'all do something similar with WU? So, have an option in settings for lefty versus righty, then do a mirror image of each spell for lefties? This is probably how it would work if HP were real.
I'm not disabled in any way but I'm still not able to complete this masterful flipendo thing. I've used the whole evening and loads of potions and only managed one so far...

Have had a stroke one reason I play this game is to help me with dexterity. That said ...the best I've ever done on flipendo is great. No way will I get masterful. This game is not inclusive
