I just used an edible dark mark. In 2 of 3 encounters the 3rd foe disappeared from screen. This has been an ongoing problem since these were introduced and Niantic is apparently unable to fix this. The result is a loss of the dark mark, potions, fragments, and books. I like battling these; but will certainly not waste money purchasing dark marks until - or IF - this issue is ever resolved.

if you contact in-app support (thru chat) and explain the problem they can give you back the potions:
go items and purchases -> other and the bot will connect you to an actual person, then describe the problem and be sure to add that you are on a good 4g/wifi signal full bar etc and you have downloaded all assets and time you fought the adver and which potions you used etc
and they can/will give the potions/edm back to you :)
