Give Rewards for Fortress Activity, Not Punishment for Inactivity
To solve the problem of players freeloading in Fortresses, give the rewards based on the amount players contribute to the battle, by them giving hexes, spells and focus, and/or defeating foes. The more they contribute, the greater the rewards. No contribution, no rewards.
I guarantee you that everyone will be participating as much as possible.

I prefer that w some system held by WB/devs (not easily abused by players) anyone freeloading would have a similar system to spoofing, lose the KB/forts for 1 week, 1 month, perm. I also guarantee you freeloading would stop after the 1st few ppl would lose the bus for 1 week. I dont care that ppl who dont contribute getting less rewards, I care for ppl who are obviously standing there doing nothing benefiting from the efforts of others w/o spending any resources of their own to get harsh punishment and everyone else great rewards.
The problem with harsh punishments is that this system would rely on an algorithm to decide if someone is a freeloader or not. I am 100% confident that there would be false positives, leading to people being incorrectly banned from the Knight Bus. This would be a much worse issue for the overall player base than freeloaders currently are.
you can appeal spoof bans, i dont see why not appeal this.
If a "freeloader detection system" could be implemented which was highly accurate, alongside a hassle free way to appeal an incorrect ban, then I might think your idea was an acceptable solution.
Since there has been very little evidence of the dev team being able to smoothly implement new features or quickly fix bugs that arise, or of support being able to provide an easy way of doing much of anything, I think that introducing a system which could bam people from a key component of the game could be disastrous for an unlucky part of the player base.
I agree with a reward system rather than a punishment. It would give an incentive to be active. Just look at event tasks when we have to defeat X number of foes, all of a sudden players are fighting to defeat foes and not only from their own factions.
A punishment for inactive players could cause false errors as I have to admit it has happened to me before where my service crashed and I was unable to do anything, not by choice and not my fault. Im sure many player's might have had a similar issue at one point or another.
I'd love to see bonuses handed out for not just damage done, but also:
Yeah, any algorithm can be gamed, but even a monthly Fortress event with activity bonuses would be a lot of fun.
Let's think another way, if the algorithm cannot get enough support.
A player-made ranking system.
Once wizards challenge finished, every player can give some "thumbs up" to those contribute significantly.
Every time when player is waiting in the lobby (may take forest above), they can check others scores (counting by thumbs up they got in last 30 days).
The system can be expanded to the global / regional leaderboard in the future, or maybe to unlock "invite to join battles" via certain threshold of the scores. 😎
I think a proper punishment is not required but simply losing the battle. Active part taking should be neccessary to win a challenge. In case of inactivity the player simple should be defeated. Reason: most freeloaders do it because there are specific tasks in events etc to win X number of challenges, win a challenge in highest chamber etc. So if they don't participate they don't win, thus letting the task unfinished.
How about a tally. Numbers beside your Aviator indicating how many foes your vanquished. Also, similar for how many times you’ve given focus, hexed, etc...
Once a free loader hits 3 times in a row not vanquishing at least 2 foes per fortress chamber, ,
pow💥, they’re sidelined from fortresses through the next event.
When this happens multiple times, they should be blocked.
This will make people pay closer attention to the chamber counter.
I realize on occasion you may start a chamber and something happens with your spouse or your children or you or what not and you have to handle it and by time you get back the battles over.
that’s why I suggest three freeloading events in a row will definitely flag that somebody’s just a gold bricker. 🧱
Number of foes defeated is a horrible measure of activity. I'm done my elites badge so I tend to chew them up mostly dead then let someone else finish them. It does nothing to recognize first striking or Magis half chewing Erklings so Aurors can finish them.
If you advertise a "foes defeated" number next to a player's name, all you're really doing is penalizing those who play cooperatively and those who play different levels of Fortress rather than always Dark 5.
