Snape's Birthday and SOS

There is nothing posted on the SOS or in the game about Snape's Birthday event. I was not even aware of this until an alert came over that the event was ending. There is nothing listed in the SOS alerts about anything. Is this an error or how things will be going from here on since the update?

SOS announcements have been broken, since the last update... there is even a giant orange banner with a message notifying you of this on every page of the forums.
