Is there a point to add anyone other than local players in your area? I don't see the benefit otherwise...

    There are achievements for adding a certain number of friends. So if you're going for that, you'd presumably go for as many friends as you can, regardless of where they are.

    You need 20 for the max achievement. Besides that, nope. At least not yet.

    Hiya, I think maybe the task to complete of having more friends is helpful? Cos i only have 7 other potter crazy friends lol 😂 so for me, i was think how on earth do i get 30 to meet the next challenge.

    Its also neen fab to see this morn people from all over the world enjoying HP as much as i do.

    There may be other benefits in the future, no idea if there will be. Not sure if this is off topic - in PoGo features with friends were added later. It doesn't not mean that WU will do the same thing. I am just kind of wondering if it will have more meaning in the future.

    Is there an ingame chat feature if you add friends is what i was wondering? it would be nice if you didn't have to exit the game to text friends if you were doing a mission together where you had to be in 2 separate locations in the same relative area.

    @H4rdC4ndy there is no in game chat. In previous Niantic games we relied on voice chat applications running in the background to communicate.

    You can expect many more events like the Indianapolis one where people come together and meet. In other Niantic games I was grouped with other people to complete tasks. I expect that there will be plenty of opportunities to meet friends and I'm therefore unconcerned with adding friends until and unless I plan to play together. (Currently 3 friends.)

    Maybe someday it will have chatting platform added into it. Who knows, right?
