I tested this this morning on about 10 inns. Only time it worked was when all five dishes showed pumpkin juice... guess what I got? So it’s not the case for me. Kind of wish it was because then maybe you could manipulate it a little by exiting and re-entering the inn.
Sadly I got the same results as Dog. Keep looking though! The games new and I'm sure theres still at least a handful of things we haven't figured out yet...
@Dogoutlaw I dont think this will work. I believe the energy is set as soon as you complete the swipe.
I've been a passenger in a car and hit in nsw a few times while passing and noticed they have gone out of range before the plate animation. I've still got the energy as long as I've swiped the spell.
@Whitehorsematt agreed. I’ve done same while in car. And now while walking as well once I realized I didn’t have to wait for it to go through the whole animation. I guess my point was the dishes show what’s there before you swipe. So if you knew what was in store, you could leave without swiping, re-enter and see if it offers something different. But since the OP tip doesn’t work for me anyway, it’s all mute.
I notice, for a quick second or less, the bottom right one disappears and shows what it is going to give you and then reappears with something else. Then when you swipe to get it, it gives you what it briefly showed you. It isn't really helpful as there is no way to manipulate this, but I have noticed this "tell".
I tested this out last night. The first two inns were like that...the rest of the evening they werent. Three Inns hit every 5 min for 90 min. Maybe Niantic caught on that people caught on and changed it.
Based on @Crogabattoir's observations and my own I do believe there is a timing type thing going on here. I have observed that same mysterious content switch very occasionally.
However, since it doesn't appear to be something that is consistent, nor can we act upon that information, it remains as the original poster said "a useless tip" and rather may be something that should be reported as a low priority bug.
the bottom right is what you get. if you swipe quickly enough to finish the draw before the plates cover after they first open to show you what is available, you will see the meal change into the one you get if it is not the one first shown.
as to how to get it to give a specific thing... keep discussing, good luck, and hoping someone figures something out!
Ive been looking since i first read this, but noticed no correlation. But i think i will have then let the dishes close before or as I swipe.
Defo agree it would be great if we could figure out a way to manipulate this cos it's gutting to just get 3 when you are running low & it's a while to the next inn. Will keep experimenting.

Nice. I'll keep an eye on that, and see if I end up with the same.
If you leave the inn and return does that change?
Do you get the first item or the new one?
Is this an opinion or an observation?

I have also noticed this. It's not everytime but I would say 98% to 99% of the time.

This useless tip was actually working for me at first. Then it stopped over the last week or so. Nowadays I just X out soon as I swipe.
