Events - Why Is Nobody Listening???
After the latest Wizarding Weekend and recent Brilliant events, I can only assume that these Events are no longer managed by real people and instead are driven by some algorithm intended to make players give up and uninstall the game. That algorithm seems to be deliberately designed to make tasks:
- More boring - Family XP tasks of increasing numbers culminating in the latest ridiculous 2000 xp. Without placing images (which many cannot easily do), this means capturing around 500 traces!
- Harder to the point where they can no longer be done in the time available
- Less rewarding - eg ingredient rewards which can otherwise be picked up by walking 50 yards
- Less inclusive - anyone in a low spawn area has to ignore likely COVID restrictions to complete
I play both Wizards and Pokemon Go; until recently I had nothing but praise for the way in which the Wizards team had handled themselves during the pandemic, making it both possible and pleasurable to play the game thanks to features such as on map energy and the Knight Bus. At the same time, Pokemon Go got it completely wrong, appearing money grabbing and inconsiderate (Remote Raid Passes costing real money anyone?).
However the recent events in Wizards have been full of bugs, bad decisions and largely comprised of unimaginative, boring grind tasks for little reward. The forum is full of players reporting these issues, being ignored and finally giving up the game.
Wake up Niantic before your potential future money spinner becomes a place full of long passed ghosts rather than eager confoundable seekers!

They're managed by real people, they just don't seem to care in the slightest if they retain/lose ppl over them, or the game.
And people keep blaming niantic, it's not niantic. niantic gave them the poi network. WB games division and porktkey games are developing this game (WU).
I stand corrected over Niantic; in my frustration, I failed to delve deeply enough into the specific corporate responsibilities. Notwithstanding my confusion, I would not have thought that any of the senior management of any of the three parties would be happy with the level of complaints from large numbers of their customer base and the financial consequences which will ensue if they continue to ignore them.
id agree but they dont seem to care, maybe they are keeping the game afloat just to have a game in the franchise and they'll axe it as soon as they can when something else comes along, or when they no longer make anything from it.
Like you, I play both WU and PoGo. I praise the PoGo devs much more than the WU devs, especially with the pandemic changes. Remote Passes are a money grab, but they have constantly kept me happy so I don't mind spending money on remote passes. WU is nothing but a grind. It doesn't deserve a penny from me. the current event has almost no brilliant spawns, and outrageous health coupled with slow animations that it makes the grind even slower.
On top of that, I rarely find energy on the ground and the needed spawns for events like wizarding weekend and brilliant events are so far and few between that it takes near 7-10 tonics to get anywhere. This is ridiculous.
@RealThuggi , its why PoGo makes $33 million a month, while this game makes $400k/month. The devs for WU don't know what they're doing, and people will take their entertainment dollars elsewhere....
pogo hasnt made more than 13m$ a month in over a year and i doubt wu makes more than 200k anymore either

considering Private companies, such as Niantic do not publish their revenue. it is most likely an estimate, And Sensor Tower might be right on in some of their research and estimates, and way off in others. It is a closed circle when there is no independent confirmation. And, also, some companies purposefully create smoke mirrors to inflate the appearance of their numbers. Sensor Tower can buy into such a bait.
The truth is probs (far) below 30m$.
But in any case it doenst matter much at all, pokemon is a gaming franchise from its start to now, with gaming crossing from cards and boardgames to video games, generations before pogo. HP never was a gaming franchise before WU, what games existed were purely companions to the movies, and didnt have games before the 1st movie came out. But WU's failing 100% b/c of WB's treatment of both the game and the playership, and I rly dont begin to care how much money niantic is making from pogo.
Yes!!! Thank you!! These tasks are impossible to complete!! I live in a low spawn area, and I’m about done. This is absolutely ridiculous and no longer fun.
Wholeheartedly agree.
I spent about 5hrs playing this awful event today and can’t find the last handful of George traces—and I’m not even surprised because the events have been getting worse and worse over the last couple months.
In the last two hours, I used roughly 45 detectors, 30 extimulo potions, three TDD, and opened about a dozen portkeys— all in an attempt to get the last several of each of the types of foundables in the event. I finally got everything done except George and after an hour spent just looking for seven of him, I gave up. THAT’s when I actually found one of him— when I’d driven away from the densely packed downtown square where a bunch of inns are that I’d souped up with detectors for two hours nonstop. He was by a lone greenhouse on my way home. Much good it did me, since I still need six more.
The events should give you tasks to accomplish, not to make you fail. My husband gave up a few events ago. Before that, we both played every single day. Very. Frustrated.
Perhaps we all need to have a “strike” on a certain ‘event’ where the majority of us
refuse to play the event. Especially those of us who spend.
The only way the developers will hear us is if we stuck together, and voice our dissatisfaction by NOT playing.
it wont work, for one thing many wont miss the dada/rewards for another the majority of players arent in here and/or in discord, most are in no social networks.
personally im not going to not play, if i dont play for 2-7 days (as much as an event lasts) then i most probs wont start after, i'll uninstall, my interest lost.
Pokemon Go would be nowhere without shiny mons. That keeps the things going around. Remote raid passes (like it or not) was a huge hit. But people join the raids only until they catch their shiny legendary, then they don't even bother to say no to an invitation. When you try to approach people to trade their spares with you to fill your Dex, the one and only question they have "what shinies do you have for trade?" Also these people buy Event tickets because of the boosted shiny ratio. And speaking of the events, yes, the game makes a lot of money every month (even on 1 USD tickets).
HPWU deliberately has no concept of shiny and trading and PVP. Which I can't admire enough. But apparently from the marketing point of view this decision was a long running suicide. Whatever they try to do, there will be always someone posting "I've done it in 10 minutes, boring, where's the challenge" while rural players are struggling with the simplest tasks.
I'm not sure how this could be healed. I posted all my ideas in another thread. But all of them are more like RPG and immersive. Not for competitive players...
HPWU ISNT a competitive game....
