September 2020 Event Community Feedback

Hi @hpwulola @HPWUrobert @HPWUblue

The following information is gathered feedback from a variety of International HPWU communities from different platforms.

I have decided to write up a short report (okay... it's a little long..) regarding the Monthly Events for you in hope that it may help the HPWU Team improve the game that we, the HPWU Community value and appreciate.

Wizarding Weekend

-The difficulty with the Wizarding weekend was well balanced and was not too strenuous than the previous events.

Magizoology spawns where enough , minimal players complained that they lacked the right spawns appearing however, players wanted a bigger variety of Magizoology spawns such as Pickett and the Niffler.

-The tasks required to be completed is nothing overly exciting and no different to any of the other previous events.

-The rewards were also lacking and not worth the weekend challenge.

Wizarding Weekend was not as frustrating as the previous events, it was still a bit lacking.

Some change ideas that were brought forward was that completing the event should have a special portkeys as a reward, that would give 1 unique place or 1 very rare foundable. DADA books, unique gifts for friends, more keys and restricted books.

-Majority of the playerbase enjoy inclusive related tasks. Battling alongside friends is always valued. Please consider changing tasks to be more engaging. Such as "join specific chambers and cast a hex/charm" or " "gift x amount of runestone gifts to friends".

-The last concern was the lack of specific Magizoology foundables not available. Many players were left feeling frustrated not being able to prestige pages as particular foundables  where not available. Please consider having the variety spawn, even if these non event highlighted foundables could be returned in a different way such as a low chance drop rate via fortress battles.

Other than this, Wizarding Weekend was casually enjoyable with only minor problems regarding the login loop.

Dragons Event

Almost everyone LOVED this! WB/Niantic, thank you for switching up the events this month by adding this into the mix! I don't think I've seen the community as excited to attempt this event compared to any other. It truly delivered,  and everyone I know absolutely enjoyed it. This event had gotten everyone outside for the portkeys, considering there were so many egg fragments that were needed for prestiging. It was really nice to see such a change in the events and the usual repetitiveness.

-We would like you to consider discounting keys in the in-game shop for such an event in the future. Newer players struggled to gain egg fragments.

- We would also like you to consider having eggs drop rather than being discovered in portkeys alone. Much like the Wizards Unite Fest held in 2019.

- Dragons having a much higher HP to take down would have been a nice challenge.

Other than that, this was a perfect event and kept the player base busy for the full length of the week.

THANK YOU TO WHOEVER THOUGHT OF INCLUDING THIS EVENT FOR SEPTEMBER! You deserve an Order of Merlin, 2nd class award for just being awesome.

Brilliant Events Part 1 and 2.

-The tasks for Part 1 felt mixed up. By the time a player would need to complete their Tonic tor Trace Detection task 2/2. They would have an active tonic whole task 3 is underway which has nothing at all to do with what's currently active.

- ALMOST EVERYONE dislikes the Brilliant 500 fxp tasks. It is more frustrating rather than exciting, It takes much too long, and a completely boring process. It is totally unbalanced. Many players disliked this so much that they had actually given up on completing the event.

- Another concerning part of the events was the lack of proofreading within the text. (Please see image below)

Explanations are not at all clear, "Collect 2 Lvl. 1 Battle of the Department of Mysteries Runestones" should have at leave indicated the word "Brilliant".

Bad wording and poor communication left players with a misconception which resulted in them **** the Mysterious Artifacts Runestones and foundables as these were also boosted with the event.

- For Part 2 it was once again, incredibly brutal to grind the 500 Brilliant Family XP. Nobody enjoyed this.

- Invigoration draught ingredients needed to be boosted on the map.

- Players complained that finding Brilliant Harry and the Boggart Dementor was problematic and struggled to find spawns.

-The only enjoyable part of this event was being able to find the Mysterious Note pieces and the change in the storyline.

-ALMOST EVERYONE who provided feedback has complained that the Brilliant Events are completely boring, repetitive, ridiculously long and not at all interesting to do.

Conclusion

Almost No one likes the way Brilliant events are structured. It's extremely boring and not worth the hours the players invest playing the game. The repetitiveness of having the same thing over and over is exhausting.

Please consider bringing new concepts to this kind of event.

Also a very interesting suggestion brought forward was to change the style of events every 3 months as this will prevent the player base from getting bored from the repetition. (1 year= 4 different styled events)

- There are way too many events crammed together in a month. So much in fact that players have lost interest in making Wizards Unite a priority in their usual mobile gameplay.

This also leaves us feeling worn out and exhausted by the end of an event and unable to recuperate enough to be excited for the next one.

PLEASE CONSIDER THE MENTAL HEALTH OF THE PLAYERBASE!!

As much as we love Wizards Unite, we also need to make time for real life, our loved ones, and time away from the digital world.

-We truly enjoyed the change the Dragons brought into the game. It was something fresh and different and we really appreciated and looked forward to this.

- The mass of bugs and glitches in the game has hugely impacted the community negatively.

It's incredibly sad to see players be wary about your updates than look forward to it. This shows the lack of trust we have in your game. It was truly heartbreaking to see people who I play with, quit playing WU only because of the bugs within the game that aren't being properly fixed. (The fortress glitches, Login restart loop to name the worst of a few). More so, the lack of proofreading feels highly unprofessional.

Lastly, I truly hope that all the research and effort put in this report would assist you in understanding the players needs. If there's something that connects the game to us is the Community and the passion we have for the Harry Potter universe.

We have been asking, for MONTHS, a way to connect friends across the world together on the Knight Bus.

If there is anything that keeps us playing this game is the diversity of players we connect with and the very human aspect that gives WU a completely different perspective and dynamic.

I hope that the above will be taken into consideration, thank you for all the hard work the HPWU team does especially HPWULola. We also appreciate the time and effort people like Orange Wizard and the Wutubers put into their Infographics and content to make the game more manageable and easier to prepare and alot more fun.

Below are a few attachments on comments and problems discovered during the event along with the spreadsheet of collected comments from various communities.

Also please value the input the players have given, and the comments and suggestions users may post within this thread.

Many Thanks,

Sigyn. (AltarielValice)

Well said Sigyn. It looks as though there is a bit of variety in the next month's brilliant events.

Well ssaid, Sigyn! Thank you for compiling the sentiments from the players. I do hope for more variety in the brilliant events, avoidance of tough tasks with the 500 brilliant family XP, etc. I do hope they do communicate and word things better, although Niantic isn't known for good communication (i.e. Pokemon Go) I hope they take all of our feedback into their future events and gameplay. I do agree the event burnout is real.

Wow Sigyn, spot on! This really sums up how I’ve felt, and I know so many others feel the same. Kudos to you for taking the time to put this together. I really hope Niantic/WB take the time to consider all of this and adjust accordingly.

This is the perfect perfect description of how I have been feeling. For the first time in months I didn't finish the brilliant events, because I couldn't prepare properly for them, and they were actually just quite boring. I hope they consider what the players are saying. I'm actually a player that spends money on the game, the dragon event was worth spending money on, but not the brilliant events lately.

I disagree w a lot of that, they had said before hand there wouldnt be niffler or pickett the event was specifically some stuff and not others, so im good with that, its not that they said there'd be picketts and it ended up not having them.

I do NOT want more tasks that require me to team up w anyone, b/c it is 100% that it's going to have to be randos b/c the local 'community' has been decimated and no one plays this game anymore around here, so that's only going to lead to more frustration. I dont want the dragons to have more xp i want them to have less, i dont want a challenge I want a never ending dopamine fix at seeing me 1 shot everything.

I'll agree w most of everything in regards to the BEs except for the every 3 months thing, NO NO NO! Not unless they give us other sources for DADA AND Restricted books, sos (and i imagine for new players who now start professions, there's that added difficulty) even with monthly 2 weeks of BEs are going to take us 5.5 YEARS to complete at the current rate of 20 DADA per month (10 per BE week). And you want to do that every three months? make that 5 years into 15? ARE YOU ON YOUR RIGHT MIND? xD

Besides like another player whose opinion I value said: This game's events are boring and repetitive, but without them this game is unplayably boring.

    or in his words:

Me during events: Wow this event is boring, I wish they'd do less events.

Also me during non-event gameplay: wow this game is boring w/o constant events.

But at the very least if they do end up making BEs every 3 months instead of every month I fully demand (expect isnt strong enough) that they give multiple other sources for us to gain Rsbs/DADAs, I am not going to spend 5-15 years in this game just for gated stuff.

I will agree though, that rewards in all events are severely lacking, I have no need of basic ingredients or keys, I have need of say for example instead of 2 DADA, 20 and 40 rsbs and 200 gold or something. If youre gonna have me do 2000 fxp in a single task thats what i expect of a reward. (2k fxp is a task in upcoming oct. ww).

@Drakonite I'm sorry you feel that way with the events.

I wont say your comments isnt valid, as your gameplay that you value is maybe as severely different due to a number of social, local and personal situations. So thank you for your input and I certainly hope its looked into no differently to the majority request and a positive balance is foundto accommodate your needsas well as everyones. 😊

The information I had drawn up had been collected during the entire month. (Spreadsheet attached of most comments collected) and I had pushed forward the most popular choices.

This is the first weekend I struggled with. Not enjoyable and I gave up. Glad I’m not paying JK $$
