They have a 30min timer same as Baruffio Potion. Once the timer expires they, and any special traces not already collected, vanish. I do wish we had an in game timer on each Detector to let us know how much we have left though...
I usually takr the brain elixir before I place a Dark DETEctor. They both last 30 min so that’s how i keep track personally. A timer would be helpful tho!
would love it if under the name of the wizard that placed the dark detector there was a countdown timer. one of the many things on my low priority wish list.
When you are within the range of a inn and tap on the place dark detector screen, I believe it shows you who placed the DDs in operation, although you can't see this info from afar.
@Imaginatio exactly! There's space for a timer underneath... Now as to the coding? I mean they have it figured out when three are placed at different times in one inn... 🤔

A timer for each dark detector placed (possibly underneath each one), which you can see when you visit an inn would be very useful.
